Introduction:
The story covers the events and happenings of Claire’s life. She faces the slight taste of vampires’ existence and activities in her college days and dorm, but the situation gets grave and the vampires come into their real existence when she shifts over to an old house and invites the vampire creatures upon herself. She is faced with the new challenge of getting acquainted with the new people in her vicinity and adopting a lifestyle that is either one like theirs or staging rebellion to the vampire lifestyle. The author Roxanne Longstreet Conrad who uses Rachel Caine as her pen name has come up with a vampire story series this time. (Caine). In this particular novel, the story revolves around college adults and the city that has the vampires dwelling in it. Part of the population comprises of the naturally existing human beings, but the other half has vampire existence in it that makes up for the entire part of story and novel. The series is a good news and clear declaration for the readers who are fond of vampire stories and other related events.
Thesis 1: First part:
Claire had uneasy time during her stay in college. The author has described the character of Claire and the early days troubles she is faced with. Her troubles got further worse when she went to the new town. The college and town where Claire hails from has little standing in the overall existence of the societal affairs and its activities are little noticed by outsiders. Perhaps it is one of the reasons why the vampires have headed to this town, and are haunting the normal activities of the people in one way or the other. Rachel further gives an account of Claire’s relationship Monica. Claire is faced with the challenge of countering the opposition of Monica that makes the going further grave for her in an already tight situation. It is due to rivalry of Claire with Monica that she is forced to quit her stay in a dorm and look for a house in the nearby area. Little had she imagined that her exit from the dorm would prove so costly and that it would bring about a totally new turn in her lifestyle. She finds a new apartment through the advertisement published in the local newspaper. Her initial days are relatively peaceful and she takes it as a sigh of relieve believing she does not have to face the hurdles and obstacles that she was once faced with in the dorm with the likes of Monica, however it was not an all easy sail and she had a mountain to surmount in times to come. Fortunately or unfortunately Claire has opted for a place that offers only two options. She either has to be with the vampires and be like them in their activities and roles or she has to suffer the wrath and be in the line of fire.
Rachel further gives an account of the nature of the town. According to her the town is notoriously famous for its evening activities that would be faced by anyone who dared to step out of their house in the late hours after the sun has set. Piece of writing that is suited to the taste of adults and teenagers. The overall organization of the book is done in a very crafty manner, the division of plot into the chapters and each chapter and part carrying other along makes up for a complementing entity and an overall successful book.
Thesis 2:
Initially, Claire suspects Michael of being supernatural being and she is suspicious of his activities and overall appearance. It is Eve who assures Claire that there is nothing unusual or supernatural about Michael. She supports her claim based on the fact that she has spent time with him and that she has observed his activities long enough to deduce that he is nothing but a normal human being. Eve, however, does make a revelation to Claire that comes as an unpleasant surprise and unwanted news. It is the establishment of the rumored facts that Morganville is a place and town that holds ownership to the vampires and other creepy creatures. This is first of the many uneven and uneasy news and facts Claire would come to know during her stay in Morganville and the new house she has shifted to recently. Claire enjoys relatively sufficient guard and protection on account of her backing from her new acquaintances in the form of Eve, Michael and Shane. Each pledge to protect her in any situation of adversity that she may be faced with from any external source and most notably Monica who comes out as the swore enemy of Claire and has expressed her intentions of damaging Claire in a direct or indirect manner whenever she gets an opportunity to do so. The scene explains the scenario in the most suitable manner: “Of course, we could all die soon. I'm writing because Michael's patrolling the house and Shane and Claire are asleep. It may be the last chance I have to write anything down” (Claire).
Thesis 3:
It is a trio in the form of Claire, Michael, and Eve who undertake this challenge to prove the odds wrong and take things into their hand by challenging the pre-existing norm of stepping out of their houses after the darkness has set in. The people that she comes into contact in her stay at the new place are relatively unconventional to start with; however she does not face any major turbulence as she did during the days of her stay in the dorm with the likes of Monica. One of the other major individuals that she comes across a new place is Michael. Michael shows little peculiarity in his initial interaction and seems all right, except for the mere fact that his activities are nocturnal and that he is little seen and available during the day timings. Michael is shown as the owner of the house. He develops cordial relationship and one of hospitality with Claire in the initial days. The script takes a new turn and direction subject to further events development. It leaves the readers wondering what just happened and this leads us to assume that the book will have another sequel and series in times to come. The sequel would deal with the untold stories and unaccomplished accounts and affairs that demand to be completed. There are moments in the book that would make the readers hold their breath and bite their nails and wonder what would happen next. The writer Rachel Caine deserves applause and accolades for having come up with such a piece of literary work. Through this piece of writing, she has consolidated her existence as one of the fine writers of the contemporary times.
Conclusion:
The book would hold interest largely in the teenage group and the fresh grownups. It at the same time would make for a considerable amount of bench strengths in the adults who are fond of the supernatural and mysterious creatures and the actions and stories associated with them. Overall the book, its theme, genre and content are sufficiently rich to earn it sufficient amount of readers bench and make it a commercial success. The book would find conservable audience bench in a house that has teenage kids or communities and towns that have colleges and schools and children are fond of reading such supernatural affairs and accounts of different towns. Other main personalities and individuals that she is faced with in her stay at the new place is Eve. She too is relatively unconventional in her outward appearances. Third main character that she comes across in her stay at the new place is that of Shane. He too is from the same group as that of Michael and Eve and he also has nothing unusual about his existence and actions. He is most of the times kept busy in leisure and other activities that would make one little suspect of the supernatural abilities. The book and script has a slight touch of romance to it. It is shown in form of the first kiss that Claire gets to taste during her stay in the new place. Overall the book has the sufficient recipe and ingredient to make it the best content and reading material for the teenagers who want a mix of various components and items in a book and story. The line “Shane - who knows about Shane? Planet Shane is a lovely place a long way from here” defines Shane.
