1. Assessing BP response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, it can be noted that the BP procedures that were undertaken in the extraction of the oil underneath depict carelessness of the company. Though, BP has already been facing a lot of ethical, corporate and environmental dilemma due to the previous oil spill that has damaged the image of the company. The company has not taken appropriate measures and lacked skills to drill down the Gulf of Mexico. The employee and management in the different headquarter across the globe did not step ahead to take any measures to control the oil spilling. BP’s professional support as a corporate company destroyed the image of the company because besides BP is a leading oil company, still it lacks adequate staff and skills that are required to improve its drilling procedures (King, 2010). It appears that the company is not making any effort to improve its skills and technique procedures which are the main issue, but rather it aims to improve its image through advertising which is the poorest way for such a reputable and old company.
2. Well, the BP’s CEO Hayward shows a carefree behavior on the media using the words such as “hoping for the best” rather than emphasizing on the measures and steps that the company is taking to control the situation. If the company would have shows a better understanding and briefed about the steps that company aims to take to control the oil spilling and shows gratitude to contribute to the losses the CEO could have saved the image of the company (King, 2010). Since, the spokesperson represented the whole company, due to which it was very significant that the spokesperson would have showed concern regarding the oil spill it has made in the country.
3. By the responses given by the CEO Anthony of BP, the company could have prevented the image of the company. It is suggested that the company could have demonstrated its efforts and concern to address the oil spill in the country. The company could have taken a suggestion from the experts across to globe to take action and measures that could be taken to control the oil spilling. BP could have taken charge to handle oil spilling in the country by taking the support of the other experts and companies who have come across oil spilling and have taken measures to prevent the oil spilling like Cameron International Corporation.
The other step suggested to BP is to participate in the compensation for the damage that has occurred because of oil spilling. BP can compensate the damage and losses by paying a certain amount, investing in the development of the area, habitats, people, restaurant and other areas that are affected by the oil spilling (Janmohmed, 2011). The company also pays the big amount or financial support the family members of the workers that have lost their life in the explosion.
The third initiative suggested is to assure improvement in the corporate practices, employees and technical support of the company. It can be done if the company would develop programs and plans to support the environmental development and technical development towards the sector on the global level (Janmohmed, 2011). The company needs to address the issues through collective collaboration with expert companies that would assist the company to improve its overall procedures. There is the need for the company to develop training programs for its employees.
