Bruce Springsteen has been acclaimed as one of the greatest artists of all time. His music is unique in many ways. One of the things I like is the lyricism and the poetic language in the songs. Many of his songs are very earthy in nature, reflecting the times of the day, suffering of the people, love and romances, events, patriotism and so on.
The music brings together a very good symphony of words and tunes, integrating it with great sound, rock energy and deep meaning. It bears the style of many other writing greats like Bob Dylan who are really poets in the garb of musicians. Words are the key to great music and Bruce Springsteen embodies the best there is in the world of music.
Bruce Springsteen leads as the Rock hero among the best of the best. Even at the age of 65 he has the charisma and energy of a 25 year old. His live performances are a class in itself. He brings together the classic rock music, rocker imagery with his unique style of performing, loud guitar play and deep words that move people.
In reality the classic rock genre has declined over the past few decades with the advent of Rap and new forms of Pop. In an industry that has seen a decline, Springsteen concerts are a sell- out. He brings to life the classic and contemporary neo-rock culture to life in the 21st century. He prides himself in having the most loyal fans in the world. Most other rockers at the age of 65 have either stopped working, are dead or have been forgotten in the wave of what people call modern music.
Not just in the United States but Springsteen is called the ‘Boss’ across the world. His music has touched and influenced many generations of people. Men, women and children have adored his music with hits like ‘Dancing in the Dark’ and ‘Born in the U.S.A’. The latter was played in the live concert at the presidential event by Hillary Clinton.
Bruce is the ultimate symbol and perhaps the last bastion of the classic rock generation. His mastery on words, relevance to people and descriptions of many events like closure of steel mills or the Vietnam War touch a chord in many people. His music is a great confluence of words, tunes, symbolism and action.
His songs have definite objectives in a sense. They are written with a purpose and by himself, unlike many other musicians who use writers to pen their songs. There is a real social or political message or symbolism in the songs. It relates to issues that people face and the way we live our life. It is REAL.
He has won a whopping number of Grammys – 13 in total since the turn of the century. This by itself is an achievement. In a sense his music appeals to a wider range of people and ages compared to a Bob Dylan or a Simon & Garfunkel. Though Paul Simon is also known for his superior lyrics and melodies, the songs do not portray any social or political message and do not seem relevant to people issues.
Bruce Springsteen is also known to be direct and honest. Many of his classic songs and comments in media have earned him political enemies. He and his songs have a hint of strong opinion and attempt to drive the point of view through strong music chords and energy. Bruce Springsteen remains one of the favorites in today’s music industry despite the slow decline of the rock genre. His contribution to rock, his genius and his unique style of music will influence people for a long time.
