Moscow is one of the world’s largest and richest cities. The city is the capital of Russia and has a population of over 10.5 million people as per the 2007 population estimates. The city, being a capital city, is a destination of millions of people each year. Moscow’s climate varies with the seasons. The weather is continental, typified by very long and cold winters and short and hot summers. The snow falls in winter begin during October and last through the spring. Even though the summer is short, it is the best time to travel to Moscow. The day time is usually very long and the weather is warm and favorable. In the months of July and August, the city experiences heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms. The summer lasts through June, July and part of August. The cold season of winter lasts from December to April.
