Individuals can create and customize their personal brand through a 4-step strategy that enables to discover, create, communicate and to maintain a brand (Shirey, 2010). Leadership is the use of interpersonal skills, behavior and strong ethics (Curtis, de Vries, & Sheerin, 2011).
Step 1:
As a nurse, I am compassionate, kind, and caring about my patients. I have excellent organizational skills with good decision making and judgment making abilities. I represent my chosen profession and my institution. I bring with myself a high level of alertness, patience, dedication, responsibility, and first-rate communication skills. I can manage my stress under difficult circumstances and have an ability of critical thinking to judge the situation for taking appropriate decisions.
Step 2:
I want to be known for my responsible nature, and critical thinking ability in times of emergency. My knowledge and critical thinking ability give me a poise and calm nature that is appealing to patients, and they feel comfortable when I am looking after them. I am very particular of noting down all details of the patients including medicinal and personal. The personal details help me connect better with the patient and results in a higher level of trust.
Step 3:
I convey my brand and my positive impression through my work. An action is better than thousand words, and this is the philosophy that I live with. I strive to give a high degree of care to the patients that I am looking after. I maintain a healthy relationship with the patient by remembering his/her all the details both personal and medicinal. Each day when I leave from work I ensure to check all my patients and fill them with hope and delight as much as possible.
Step 4:
I would be my worst critic by monitoring myself at all times and keeping a check on myself about my schedules, my patient data, and my responsibilities both assigned and undertaken. I would have a written journal for myself where I will keep all the activities for the day and mark anything that might be harmful to my brand image. I would like to enhance my educational qualifications as my professional life expands. I would create a strong work ethic and develop excellence in my professional skills and ability that make me a brand in my workplace.
