The construction of the holocaust memorial was done to remember the Jews who were mistreated and killed in Germany during the reign of Hitler. During the time, many people died at the time and the rest of the world did not even take any actions to rescue the Jews. This research paper will give the personal opinions of the proposition of construction of holocaust memorial.
It is believed that the construction of the holocaust memorial was proposed by the Nazi party that was leading the country during the time (Beck, 36). In addition, the citizens of Germany including the non Jews are believed to support this. However, this information seems to be wrong since during the time, the Jews were hated by everybody other groups. It is not possible that the proposition was made by the Nazi party. It is as a result of the pressure from us that the party decided to construct the memorial.
The construction of the memorial is a good idea because it helps to remember a time when the Jews were hated all over the world. The rest of the world did not welcome the Jewish refugees and this demonstrated the hatred that the world had about the Jews. Hitler’s actions were just demonstrating the feelings of the whole of the world (Beck, 56). The memorial is important in reminding states that the rights of every group in the society are important.
The size of the memorial is extremely large and this has brought criticism about its construction. However, my opinion is that its size is important in that the size will always make people remember history and they will not be willing to accept such an occurrence again. The size of the memorial is not wastage of resources, instead, it is just meant to remember the massive life’s that were lost.
The information that says that other groups such as lesbians are honored by the memorial is not justifiable. It is clear that the world targeted the Jews specifically. The US just intervened after people recognized the rights of all individuals. The Nazi party constructed the memorial just to live a mark of their reign (Beck, 38). Therefore the memorial should just be meant for the Jews only.
In conclusion, even though the construction of the holocaust memorial was done unintentionally, it helps to remember a time when the leaders of the world did not recognize the rights of the people. The large size ensures that the incident remains in the memories of people forever and this will encourage good leadership.
