Illegal copying of CDs is against the law and retardedchicken would have some reasons to fill out an ethical argument against CD piracy. However, the case is not clear because Overstand has not specified whether the CDs being copied are copyright protected or not. Retardedchicken could argue that it was Overstand’s perennial duties to know that unlawful copying of CDs amounts to piracy. A libertarian argument will argue that rules of copyrighting are unjustified because manufacturers of such CDs could have used copy protection software or other means to prevent people from copying them. Since, the Overstand’s CDs could be copied; it is unethical for him to copy. Additionally, if a company producing the disc wanted to make it impossible to copy, it could have produced it with copy protection software to prevent duplication.
Kantian case for condemning Clone CDs from their projects would be that given clients non-copyrighted CDs does warrant them to copy or pirate them, because it amounts to immoral sense. However, libertarian case for congratulations would be the ethical recommendation to copy because of lack of copyright protection. The Kantian case would be strong because of the ethical principles in it. There is an ethical case for the tone of the discussion because one party supports piracy while the other undermines it. Yes, ethical cases can be made against online discussion forums if no warnings have been given against the comments from the users.
If have to choose a business partner, he/she must be an altruist because business entails having trust in your partner and if my partner is willing to take a shot for the sake of my success, then why not settle for him/her as business partner. For the sake of corporate social responsibility and giving back to the community, I will consider helping others. However, doing well for our business will be the first priority as opposed to helping others. Speaking of the invisible hand, I do not think it will be applicable in our business.
The situation that seems to accomplish a general good for our business is making money and donating some of it to charity hoping that it will improve the general welfare and corporate responsibility. In terms of egoism, every business has a business element and thinking for the best of everyone should define the competitive sustainability of the business. For this reason, I rule out the possibility of egoism and settle about consequentialist ideas. This will serve to fulfill the interests of the business.
