Applying for the Business, Finance and Management program of your institution is a great priority for me for many reasons. First and foremost, it is my desire to begin a career in business and finance after completing my degree at your institution. Business has always been a great area of interest for me; I do my best to keep up with current business and finance news on a daily basis, whether through online or offline sources. I greatly enjoy learning about how the economies of this world work, both local and international, and I very much wish to be part of the market that controls and oversees these varying forces. Of particular interest to me is the phenomenon of corporate buyouts and takeovers; the push and pull between companies for market dominance has a competitiveness to it that I respect highly. In many ways, the conflict between businesses is Darwinian, with the market becoming a game of survival of the fittest; it is my belief that understanding the forces that lead to these takeovers can result in more effective maintenance of a company and an economy, which is how I intend to use my Business, Finance and Management degree.
My interest in business stems chiefly from my relationship with my father, who wished for me to become an engineer in my home country of Azerbaijan. He knew a lot about the oil and gas industry here, and saw a future for me as an engineer, who could take advantage of these opportunities. Admittedly, I excelled in mathematics, physics and chemistry during my early studies, which would have lent my talents well to engineering. However, while I saw the merits in his plan, I realized that entering a career in business would allow me a chance to make more of these opportunities, profiting from them by working in the oil and gas markets. My understanding of the science behind oil and gas refinement and mining, in particular, would help me greatly to take advantage of these opportunities in Azerbaijan.
Currently, Azerbaijan's great resources make it a very desirable target for oil and gas companies, and the country is experiencing an economic boom. Furthermore, government intervention and regulation in the industry is lessening, with restrictions being relaxed to allow the market conditions for enterprise to flourish. With this open, receptive market, there are significant opportunities for well-educated and determined entrepreneurs in this area, and it is my ambition to be one of them. The economy's rapid growth is leading to a new and emerging middle class with an increasing disposable income; spending on products and services will also increase, leaving many opportunities in the import market and internal production of goods. My ambition and determination is great, and I believe I can capitalize on these opportunities with the help of an education from the UK's best institutions.
In addition to these business pursuits, my interests are well-rounded and diverse; I am extremely physically active, and I spend a lot of time at the gym several days a week attempting to take care of my body as best I can. I love swimming, and often find it a relaxing way to let off steam and relieve stress; a lot of my spare time is spent at the pool and at the gym. Other than that, I also enjoy reading nonfiction and history, taking lessons for both language and business, and cooking healthy whenever I can. It is very important for me to do my best at everything I can, which is why I work so hard at all of these pursuits and more; I fully believe that there is nothing valuable that comes from a job half done, or an activity only given half your attention.
Currently, I am studying a Foundation programme at an international college, which is a fantastic opportunity to hone my language skills and widen my cultural horizons. Thus far, I have learned many things about different cultures from all over the world, and spent significant time learning the language and customs of these cultures. With this constantly expanding skill set, I believe I have unique communication skills that would permit me to interact productively with business interests and personnel from all over the world. I have come to understand greatly the need for a strong global perspective, due to the increasingly intimate and globalized nature of our world economy. Azerbaijan alone has a number of different cultures, with their own languages, who have to learn to communicate amicably; this is where I learned most of my own abilities to interact with others. Growing up there left me with a distinct advantage in interpersonal and international communication, which I believe is a great asset to my own business skill set. Wherever I go, I tend to be a very friendly and sociable person, easy to get along with; this should help me both in the world of your university and the business world beyond.
