As a matter of fact, business in the 21st century has become very competitive; hence, each company strategies towards achieving competitive advantage over their potential competitors. McDonalds is one of the companies that established environmental management strategies in becoming ecologically sustainable company, solving existing problems as well as attaining competitive advantage. McDonalds Company is one of the leading operators and franchises on fast food restaurants globally. In fact, it is among the largest retailing chain on food service, serving and preparing a range of beverages and food products (Datamonitor 2).
McDonalds Company is an ecologically sustainable organization in the global business arena. Certainly, they recognize their responsibility in preserving and protecting the ecological niche for generations to come (Griffin 37). They are focused on activities such as redesigning, reusing, reducing, as well as recycling with the goal of using less energy. The company is committed to tackling litter in the community in various ways. This is achieved through the day by day litter patrols, and holding litter events. Additionally, McDonald’s towards development of an ecologically sustainable company provide litter bins.
Conversably, the company have strategist by establishing and focusing on commitment to reduce the solid waste volume by approximately 50%. The company believes that the strategy an ecologically sustainable company is achieved through reuse, recycle as well as reduce. The strategy focuses on lifecycle approach, whereby it leads to proper management and reduction of solid wastes. McDonalds have had problems in the past with their environmental practices. In order to produce land for ranching, McDonalds has destroyed the rainforest. In fact, they use lethal poison to undertake the task. This has developed a lot of critics since the destruction of forests affect the environment. Additionally, many critics have been raised by the public on issues pertaining the recycling of paper by McDonalds Company. The truth is that a small percentage is recycled leading to littering of cities in the globe (Griffin 38).
Competitive advantage is a very important aspect of McDonald’s company. This is because competitive advantage guarantees the company success over its competitors. In order to increase competitive advantage McDonald’s should improve its practices. They should be ready to maximize the use of the minimal land available in building a ranch. This will ensure that the destruction of forests is eliminated. Furthermore, the company needs to improve on its communication channels. This will develop and strengthen the link between consumers, the company and the public (Jones & Hill 114). For the sake of continuous growth and attendance of cooperative advantage, McDonald’s should be innovative and consistent of ways of recycling, reusing, as well as reducing. In order to have information on the market and ecological issues, McDonald’s should invest on information technology by adopting modern technologies in carrying out various aspects. The main products of McDonald’s are food; hence, they should be in a position to demonstrate its usefulness on the health of its consumers. Its nutritional guide should show the amount of salt, fats, animal products and sugars. Consumers always want health food, and indicating it will increase the competitive advantage of McDonald’s company (Datamonitor 3).
MacDonald Company is still among the largest dealers of fact food despite the existing challenges. This is because there are numerous things that are doing rights especially on environmental issues and corporate social responsibility. MacDonald Company has done a lot in energy saving. Every individual in the company is encouraged to be part of the energy saving team. Globally, McDonald restaurants have been designed to fit local environment. This implies that they are working together within the community in conservation. Additionally, the restaurants focus in water and electricity conservation (Datamonitor 4). The company also does the right thing in packaging it products. Most of the packaging materials are recycled or reused. The company also does it right by providing funds in environmental defense. It brought out both valued and respectable expertise on issues of environment. Generally, MacDonald Company has developed various environmental management strategies, but these should not overwhelm the business factors and marketing initiatives of the company. The company is committed in doing the right things on sustainability and business issues, which will continue company’s heritage on making affirmative impacts in society.
