The two videos are really quite disturbing. It is sad that people refuse to take action and help other people who are in need of help. Passing on the responsibility to help to other people who are in the same place is not reasonable. If one can do something about a situation, one has to step up and do what he thinks is the right thing to do. It is unfortunate that people nowadays have the “I don’t want to get involved” attitude. These people however cannot be blamed entirely for their action. A probable reason for not wanting to get involved is fear. People fear that those asking for help are just bad guys putting up an act to victimize innocent bystanders. The increasing number of crimes in society today and the media hype that it possesses all contribute to the fear of people to help people on the streets who need assistance.
If in the future, one will need help while on a busy street, one will be afraid that no one will go out of his way to help. One feels that it is sad that there are very few good Samaritans nowadays. Maybe if ever one finds oneself in need of help in a public place, the best thing to do, if one is capable, is to just call a friend through the phone or call the attention of a police nearby. One will probably do this because one is aware that people on the streets cannot be relied upon for help.
After watching the two videos, one felt guilty that there may have been instances when one was confronted with a similar situation but one simply turned one’s head to the other direction. These two videos are eye openers. Maybe next time that one sees a person in need of help along the road, one should not let fear get the better of oneself. One should take responsibility and be involved. If ever one is not sure if it is safe, one can just call 911 and report the incident or maybe call a police officer.
