Today whiling speaking to a very good friend of mine over the telephone, he mentioned that he would soon need to make a decision of whether or not to continue his current career path or accept a job offer that he had applied for many months ago. He had told me about this before and how it could really make his life easier for many reasons but he hesitated because he had the security of his present job and a family that he was responsible for. We talked for a bit and discussed what he should do and we decided that he should accept the offer and take a chance. Here are some of the key points we came up with and why we both agreed this was the best thing for him and his family.
First off, the distance my friend currently travels to work at the moment is quite a bit farther then the distance he would need to travel to get his new job. This mean being able to wake up a bit later and that well needed extra half hour we could all use most mornings. Not only would this save him time but also money as it would take less gas for him to drive his “all terrain” gas guzzling automobile to and from work.
Secondly and of course usually the most important of all reasons, the salary he would be walking into would be better. The security of his present job would definitely keep he and his family happy for the time being, but he knew that eventually he would need to make more as the children grew older and different needs would arise. The plateau which he reached at his present job did not allow him to make any upward progression in pay or position and the new offer would allow him both the ability to make more money and give him the opportunity to move up the cooperate ladder.
In the end he could not argue what taking such a chance could do for himself and his future. Yes the risk are there, but the payout was worth the risk and my friend has decided to take the chance and inform his current company the best and that he would soon be moving onto a new career which he knows will suit him better.
