Question 1: Please describe your short-term (3 year) career goals.
My short-term career goal is to gain a position as an economic policy consultant in the provincial government in China. Mainly, I hope would secure an opportunity to work in the poorer such as the West of China. Through extensive knowledge of economic policies, I have acquired adequate skills to help in the analysis of the poverty status in the region. The skills will enable me to identify the problems causing the high level of poverty and suggest necessary economic step the government should take as a remedy to the problem. I also look forward to an opportunity to help the local government to implement the economic policy that would improve business development. In my course, I learned various economic policies and principles that would be extensively significant in the development for local businesses. The skills will help me in understanding the business environment of the country and assist me in developing unique strategies that will help in taking advantage of the available business resources. The exposure to massive economic policies will assist me in coming up with outstanding projects for the government to assist in establishing a stable society. The positions will expose me to more knowledge on economic analysis.
Question 2: Please outline the challenges you think you will face in achieving these short term career goals and how you will overcome them?
The challenges that I will face in achieving my career goals are the complexity of the regional economic policy, lack of practical consulting experience, as well as difficulty in applying economic and business knowledge into practice. Being fresh from the University, I require some exposure on the regional economic policy, which is extensively complex. The economic policy deals with a wide range of elements, among which I have never come across in class. I need more training on the economic policies of China. Since the position requires extensive knowledge and expertise I would require consistent consulting whereas I lack practical consulting experience. In addition, it is not easy to put theory into practice. The economic and business policies are complex, and I require extensive exposure to employ them in my activities. However, I will overcome the challenges with time. I will take note of every step that is suggested to me as I learn more about my career. I will work with the rest of the people in my department to ensure I learn from them every day. Every experienced employee will be my friend since I will seek advice from them anytime I come across a challenge.
Question 3: Please describe your long term career goals or, if these are not clear, please outline the industry sectors that are of particular interest to you and why.
My long term career goal is to work as a consultant in the central government of China. Also, I would wish to become an Economic Think Tank where I will be a major consultant for the government and private entities as they wish to pursue certain economic activities. In my position, I will assist in changing the resources allocation processes in China. Proper allocation of resources in the country would encourage equality and reduce extensive poverty in some region such as the West of the country. As an economic Think Tank, I will help in analyzing various economic ideas and apply necessary skills to come up with accurate definitions of various policies. The analysis will be very significant in bringing in economic transformation. Continuous contribution to the economy through excellent analysis will help in assurance for sustainable development in China. I will influence the government to increase its investment in the low developed regions in the country. Equal development for the country will be an achievement to me and satisfaction for my career.
Question 4: What skills do you think are important in the career that interests you, how would you demonstrate that you have been developing these skills so far?
I understand that becoming a successful economic consultant and an economic Think Tank for the government takes more than knowledge gained in class. I have to acquire excellent skills that would help me in handling the tasks as an economist. I have to acquire exclusive skills that will help me in handling various analysis tasks. However, I am lucky to have had some experience through internship programs that expose me to the professional side of my career. Also, I have engaged in extracurricular activities, which have prepared me for leadership roles that are likely to arise. As an intern in the Corporate and Institutional Banking department at Australia and New Zealand Bank Company Limited, Chongqing Branch China I was exposed to financial analysis, which is fundamental in economic analysis. I acquired massive knowledge on report writing and analysis. Also, I could handle risks complaints from customers further exposing me to risk analysis in economics. To add on the professional exposure that I had acquired are unique extracurricular skills from extracurricular activities. As a leader to the AIESEC I was responsible for project planning and implementation through arranging activities, as well as volunteering in all forms of activities. Combining the project planning and implementation skills obtained from the activities with financial analysis and report writing skills from my internship defines uniqueness in my career. I will employ the lessons to achieve exclusive growth in my career in theory and practice.
