Re: Career research assignment
The main purpose of this assignment is to present the findings of the research I have done concerning the career that I can comfortably work in. It has three sections Career decision-making is one of the most important decisions that one has to make in a lifetime. The career that one makes will determine the work that someone will engage in their entire lifetime. Some of the factors that need to be considered when making career decisions include assessing what one values in life. The assessment criteria will include factors like what one likes to do and if a career is interesting. Management consultants say that one has to know the interest they have in a given career and the ease of working in that industry. It is important to know that many people are in the wrong careers because they failed to take time in choosing their careers. Although many people would base their decision making on the salary that different careers offer, it is more important to know what one wants and enjoys working. When evaluating a career option that one would like to take, there are various issues that should be considered. A summary of my career research assignment is what is contained in this memorandum and that this forms the main focus of focus of this memorandum. The summary report is organized and brought up in three distinctive parts or categories that are well elaborated and structured. These are the FOCUS result that is the career exploration results that form the first of the report, the MBTI assessment results that form the second part of the report. The library research form the third part of the report which covers among other issues my strengths and weakness alongside touching what it takes to have a career in management information science (MIS) which in my opinion is the best course for me.
FOCUS results
Based on the FOCUS assessment, it came out very clearly I am somebody who wants to find solutions to problems. I am a doer and I get the gratification when I am a solution to a something which has been disturbing people for a long time. I like asking questions about why some things do not happen the way it is expected. I like inquiring and trying to have people think and give their view about the solution that will be required for a given situation. I am good in analysis, achieving results and helping other find solution to independent problem is what formed my work values. According to the skill summary, it became apparent that I am always actively involved in investigative analysis of management information science (MIS) problems with the aim offing solutions these problems. I therefore found out that I can work effectively and comfortably as a software developer. A software engineer is concerned with designing information systems that will be used to solve the various problems in the organization. They are also tasked with making sure that all bugs that are reported in the system are correctly solved. This will make sure that the system and the information systems are running smoothly.
The summary also showed that I am good at breaking down very complex problems into simpler problems that are easy to handle. Surfing the net, strategy games like chess, puzzles and reading are what form a larger part of my leisure time. Software developers are known to solve problems by breaking the problems that they are to solve into smaller problems. This way, they are known to work on the smaller problems and ensure that they get the solutions to the bigger problems through solving the smaller problems. This is similar to what I got in the interest codes. I was also identified as reader. This is because of my interest like reading and surfing a lot. This is because of the desire to know something new hence full of ideas hence regarded as a think tank. Software developers are known to be think tanks. The translation of raw data in meaningful stuff i.e. achieving result is what I was found to enjoy most. This is alongside being investigative and thankful.
A software developer expert is the ideal person to have the above mentioned interest and skills that form my interest and skills. According to the economic survey carried out by the world street journal, it was found out that the employment opportunities for management information science expert is projected to be favorable and very lucrative in the next decade coupled with the current and globalization and internet penetration in the world. Most of these opportunities are found in both the private firms and in the government agencies responsible with the management information science (MIS) planning of a country. Majority of these analysts especially those in senior positions work as consultants in matters information science (Sate University 72).
Currently, a software developer expert with a graduate degree earns $ 54,900 in most states in the US. This can go even as higher as $130,000 depending on the level of education and the area of specialization. For one to be very marketable in this field, it’s advisable that one pursues a master and doctoral degree on majors that that are well suited for this occupation. Specialization is a fundamentally important thing that one has to put into consideration. It’s for this reason that I have decided to major in software development and programming and sit for an IT examination after I graduate (Vugt, Beginning software development: From novice to professional 61).
MBTI results
INFJ based on the MBTI assessment report come out as my preference. This is because of the insightful, analytical, independent and investigative nature of INFJ’s. Their personality is that they seek purpose, result and independence in their pursuit of personal endeavors. They are also talented and gifted in their skillful decision making as they base their decisions of their personal values and interests. They also aim at giving solutions to problems.
Based on the above argument, I find the above descriptions accurately portraying my very own personality. This is because of my personal desire to giving solutions to problems especially those that pertains finances. I find my good at solving problems that are complex in nature while at the same time being very investigative and wanting to know what could be the problem in most problems I encounter. This is because of my ability to look at things more critically and being able to synthesis complex problems (Vugt, Pro to software engineering 17).
The MBTI preferences are in tandem with the interest I have for the management information science expert career. This is because for as long as the management information science (MIS) analysis as always been in existence, it is apparent to note that management information science experts have always been investigative and a have worked independently. Out of the raw data given, an analyst will give some deductions that are key in decision making. The results of an analysis are that solutions to problems are identified. This interests me a lot. Through the analysis accuracy is arrived at hence problems are diagnosed and solved.
One of the challenging areas of software engineering is the fact that writing code and reasoning the outcome of a given code. There is need to anticipate what a given code will bring when the code is executed. Programmers are also supposed to know what is taking place in the programming languages that they are using. Programming languages keep on changing and the programmers in these fields have to know what is going on. With the trends that are associated with the internet, technology is becoming dynamic and keeps on changing from time to time. Being kin and able to identify specific details are what form part of the challenging part of this career. With less concentration one can have a stressful encounter while being a management information science expert. It’s therefore advisable that one be careful and skill to avoid being overwhelmed by this demanding career especially with the expanding organizational abilities. Gonging ahead of time works for one to working is such a field and makes its more manageable and less stressful.

What does it take to get a Job in this Field?
Since my desire is to attain graduate degree, I must maintain a GPA of 3.0 and above. These will grantee a place in the graduate school. I have to be very good in programming. But before this, I have to be very good in Mathematics as computer programming involves a lot of mathematics and logic reasoning. Software development requires reasoning in logic. It is also a requirement that software developers be good in a particular program. There are various software development languages that need to be mastered in software development. The programming languages that are used in software development are divided into two which are structured programming and object oriented programming. I am interested in object oriented programming. This is because object oriented programming is the modern language that is used by many programmers and companies. Participating in various clubs and organizations that offer development opportunities in the area of my interest is the other thing that I will engage in. Apart from a participating actively in club activities, I will also offer to work voluntarily for organizations specializing in the IS field. I will also take part in developing software for small organizations and follow them to ensure that the software is working well. I will also register in technology journals so that I am aware of what is happening in the field.
