Is Google making is Stupid
Introduction
The article analyzes the way the internet has taken over our whole world and developed a world where we are completely reliant on using the internet for everything we need. The internet has created a world around us that has led us humans to stop thinking anymore, rather use the internet for anything as their thinking device. The worst part is that the internet provides an easy pass to people and makes them lazy and dependent. The article provides a brief analysis of the situation at hand and how humans are becoming stupider with time. Today, people cannot even go through a book or an interesting article, rather they try to cheat their way out and learn from internet about the book. In his article, Carr analyzes that way internet has started to become one-stop solution for everything people need or anything they want to think about, leading to decline the in the mental faculties (Carr).
The article provides an account of life in the modern technology driven world and experiences of some of the greatest writers and academicians who learned the way the internet has changed their perspective and habits. The aim of the article is that the internet creates a situation where people find easier ways to access information, rather searching or exploring it through their mental faculties. Carr presents his opinion by giving examples of today’s life as relevance of the internet in everyday life makes people avoid effort. Most people have no interest in gaining knowledge and learning something new as they have internet to help them out as their thinking machine. Carr points out that reliance on the internet is trouble for humans as they need to retain the importance of using their mind again, rather than googling everything (Carr; Harris).
The internet is chipping away with people’s capacity for contemplation and concentration. Human mind expects information from the internet and develops the habit of collecting and disseminating information that way net distributes it. Internet has the ability to affect cognition and the more people use the internet the tougher it becomes for them to fight their urge to think rather than search. Carr’s points out that people’s minds are becoming attuned to using the Internet and the way information is provided, which is pressuring traditional media to accept audience’s habits and expectations. The way internet has affected the communication has never been seen before in our lives. The internet has become people’s clock and map, typewriter and printing press, telephone and calculator, television and radio (Carr).
Carr has effectively presented his point of view and identifies the way the internet has managed to change people’s behavior related to knowledge. One of the major limitations of Carr’s article is the lack of sharing information on the way people become better aware of the latest news around them. The internet might be making some people habitual of searching rather than thinking, but it also makes it easier to process information and help people get more information in a shorter period of time. Carr’s argument also fails to identify the way people’s life has been made easier and with time people have managed to become more efficient in utilizing their time (Carr).
Conclusion
Carr identifies the ways people’s reliance on the internet is making them stupid and changes the way people think and communicate. The internet has become such as important part of their life, they people expect information to be fed to them rather than learning from experiences and past knowledge. Such a behavior is a major challenge that presents human race as with time, internet has taken over our lives and with time it seems internet will become more important for people.
