Ethics in the use of artistic material from the Internet
Use of Internet based services has been on a tremendous rise in the world. This has been contributed by advances in the technological world. Use of Internet has been embraced in various dimensions. For instance, people use Internet based services to disseminate information from one individual to another. In addition, it has been used in as a way of expression. For example, creation and upload of video clips and pictures which are objected in creating certain awareness. However, the form and technique of Internet usage has brought various contentious ethical and moral issues (Lawrence & Weber, 2011).
According to the theory of utilitarianism, rights and justice, upload of materials designed by another person to convey any formation should be based on ethics and morals. People have been abusing the use of material which has been produced by other people thus affecting their copyrights. This may be viewed as an infringement of property use by an individual without the owner’s consent. A person using material which has been uploaded in the Internet should first recognize the effort which has been provided by the owner in creation of that video clip. Consequently, the user should reference the source of that video clip so that the third party can easily identify the first person who developed the idea. In addition, one should not use such material for commercial purposes without the owner’s consent as this has slowly been killing the creativity of such individuals (Lawrence & Weber, 2011).
To distinguish the original video clip from that which has been uploaded in the Internet, the user can incorporate various elements. For instance, the introduction of the clip should bear the copyright information. In addition, the clip can be shortened to only areas which are essential for use as per the moment. This will of an advantage to the owner since any interested party will be forced to look up for the original copy (Lawrence & Weber, 2011).
