Question One
In Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of needs, there are ideas that emphasis on the responsibility of employers to deliver a working environment which motivates the employees. According to Maslow, the working environment should enable the employees to attain their exceptional potential to self actualization. Maslow describes the physiological, safety, love, self esteem and eventually self actualization; as the motivational pattern that human beings move through to achieve self actualization, a unique personal potential to performance (Griffin, 2012).
Amanda Shank’s old boss never appreciated her efforts, and therefore the boss failed to meet esteem needs. Under the esteem hierarchy of needs, it is the boss’s managerial responsibility to respect and appreciate his employees so as to motivate them foe self actualization, and hence human resource development. To the contrary, the old boss considered his employees as just a number, and that they were threatened that would be replaced at anytime. He does not recognize the employees, a basic need of human development. Maslow observes that if employees are complimented on the areas that they could perform better, it serves as a feedback that could help the employees work better and harder to the advantage of an organization.
Question Two
Adam’s Equity Theory advocates for a balance between a worker’s input of efforts and his output which includes salaries and other benefits such as recognition. According to the Adam theory, finding a fair balance between the input and output motivates the employees ensuring an increment in their productivity. Rewarding employees well according to their effort through salaries will ensure increased productivity for a company.
If the workers at Flight 001 feel underpaid, they will reduce their effort or leave the company and hence impact negatively on flights hence low productivity. Amanda Shank says that she will not stick around the place of employment where she feels that her skills and hard work are not recognized. This indicates that if the Flight 001 employees feel underpaid they are likely leave the company for better employment. To increase the employee’s motivation, the manager should recognize those employees that perform better as well as the areas they do better. This will allow employees work in areas they fit best, and also motivate them to put more effort since they are rewarded for it.
Question Three
Herzberg’s two factor theory is also referred as the motivator-hygiene theory which states that some jobs that lead into job satisfaction while other factors lead to job dissatisfaction. Hygiene factor are job factors that are crucial for motivation of employees in the working environment. If the factors are absent in a work place, and it is likely to cause job dissatisfaction for employees.
The working conditions at Flight 001 provide an environment that makes the employees feel part of the growth of the company. The company also recognizes the contribution of every employee whether they make errors. Emily Griffin makes error, but still the managers recognize her contribution. They identify where every work best fits and allow them to grow hence motivation. The employees are well paid and their job security is assured as they recognize every employee. Shank says that it is different from the previous company where employees were threatened by being considered as just numbers. The working conditions for the employees at flight 001 are favorable hence motivational and therefore better productivity for the corporation.
