The story is epic and intriguing as the author introduces his main characters. The audience is captivated. The use of simple and clear English words is commendable. Simple sentences that are easy to understand and follow characterize the introduction through to the main body of the story. It’s commendable that from the start of the story the author makes it easy for his audience to relate with the characters and how they feel about each other. The story is written in an attractive and impressive narrative format that not only generates suspense on the mind of the reader, but also illustrates good use of the English language.
The story has some strong points that should be noted. One of them is the ability of the author to use dialogue conversation in a narrative story and still maintain the flow of the story without making it monotonous. The story also gives an impressive background of the blind man, Robert, and the host’s wife including how they met and their correspondence. This enables the reader to have a clear understanding of their relationship and how the husband feels about it. The writer is also able to expose the insecurities the husband has in the marriage without explicitly stating so.
In spite of these few shortcomings, the story is telling. It provides a keen audience with a vivid impression of not only what goes on the mind of the story teller and that of the husband, but also what transpires in the story. For these reasons and others, I award it a B.
