I believe in causal determinism that means that every event (except maybe the first one) was caused by what came before.
Casual determinism states that all events, including human action and choices, are ultimately necessitated and determined by preceding events, which are influenced by the laws of nature. The idea of casual determinism is in par with the scientific theory in holding this reality but raises an objection from the free will concept. Physics gives a reason to doubt the certainty of determinism using the probabilistic theory that shows no certainty in the occurrence of events. Since the laws that hold nature are indeterministic and probabilistic, the occurrence of an event is not certain but probabilistic in theory.
Determinism to a large extent destabilizes the moral responsibility and, therefore, attributing responsibility to individuals if determinism is accepted. Due to the statement of determinism stating that there is no alternate course of action, then the assumption is that the moral responsibility is absolute. It means that if every human action is predetermined, nobody will be responsible for unethical action, including crime because he or she is out of his or her control. The full subjectivity to casual determinism would mean that no human is responsible for their actions. This would imply that our free will and the sense of being human are vague. If we cannot impact our actions because they are predetermined by forces of nature, then our free will and sense of self is violated. Human does not impact their action and behavior; therefore, they are not to be accountable for their unethical and delinquent or deviant behavior.
The dilemma of determinism as understood by Strawson is based on the thesis of determinism that argues about the casual laws that influence social action. He provides a classical debate on free will and moral responsibilities. Strawson opposes the notion that human behavior will be absent in the deterministic world. He argues that the human response is not only influenced by reactive attitudes but also by the state and intention of others. Individual behavior towards external stimuli is influenced by his or her 'personal reactive attitudes,' and they determine his or her reaction. The 'personal reactive attitude' includes feelings of anger or resentments in responsive to supposed ill will. However, human evaluates the willingness and awareness of the wrong doer and these influences our reaction. If the wrongdoer is psychological challenged, individuals tend to suspend reactive attitude and take objective attitudes. In the opposite scenario, we develop reactive attitudes and respond to stimuli. He asks the results of accepting the truth that is claimed by the determinism thesis and its effects on the reactive attitude. He felt that the truth of determinism cannot renounce the reactive attitudes.
Following a clear understanding of the laws of nature, therefore, we can affect the actions and code of conducts of ourselves, others and the environment. This means that we would even counter the hot criticism of criminal behavior and evil. The ability to predetermine nature allows for the experience of the impact these challenges of crime and evil. From the understanding of how events are related, prediction based on these relations can be made, and casual chains broken to influence a positive event. For instance, if there is a forecast that criminal action may be experienced in future or particular individual can depict such acts or behavior, the causal chain can be broken to influence a positive and favorable action.
