Contemporary Management and Leadership (Managing the Challenging times)
Development is the main concern for the company in order to improve the quality of the products and services offered to customers. Management entails the decision-making approach by leaders to ensure that goods and services development occurs within the scheduled time, according to the stipulated specifications, and at a minimum cost. The case of project hotels raised a lot of concerns that signified the poor organization management. As such, operations management system should start at high-level business strategies and plans, over both short and long run. Product and service call dictates the strategies and plans adopted. After the production process gives the production of goods, the distribution of the goods occurs geographically in line with the business market (Shim, & Siegel, 1999).
In order to effectively avoid such cases, the following strategies are of great use to the company management team. To start with, the management should plan an effective marketing strategy for their services. The focus on the marketing is implementation of an effective marketing strategy that will aid in gaining a large market share of the products, and increasing the prices of the products. This will involve creation of the brand name of the company that will aid in adding value to the company. In addition, effective promotion methods adoption will take place to create customer awareness and enhance development of customer loyalty at the same time. The accompaniment of this is increase in the sales budget for the company. There is an anticipation of demand increase of the sensors because of advertising and brand name creation. Therefore, price increment of the product will take place at the discovery of the demand increase. This is because demand and price have a linear correlation. That is, as the demand increases, the prices increase. The product development department does a nice work but with no cooperation between production and marketing, the company will be running at a loss. According to Lewis & Slack, management of a big organization entails linking all the department and ensuring they have good relationship in order to have good flow of materials from production to marketing (2003). Manager today has to make crucial decisions regarding business activities every single day. The greatest challenge is that the business environment is rapidly growing and highly aggressive. One finds that whatever business strategy that worked yesterday effectively is no longer relevant today (Daft, & Marcic, 2008).
Another strategy involves operations formulation in the company. Tom came up with strategies that when put into action, never improved production in the company but, brought about conflicts between employees and the management. Business environment is universal meaning macroeconomic factors from all over the world sometimes have impacts on businesses in different parts including small businesses. The present environment has consumers with varying lifestyles and values from time to time. This affects the consumers and target market needs since it affects their tastes and preferences and therefore; the business managers have to keep up with the changes to meet maintain their customers and attract others (Shi Yong, & Yi Peng, 2001). Technology is also changing rapidly; this has made the company managers stay on the lookout for better ways of achieving business goals and attaining profits. For instance, the use of internet for business activities has found adoption in the current business environment. Outsourcing of non-core business functions is also a concept that has been on the rise among independent business firms in the modern business environment (Daft & Marcic, 2008).
The third strategy concerns employees and company staff. Employees in a firm form the key elements of the firm’s success. As such, the Human Resource Department has an established strategy that will aid in employee investment and meeting employee-training needs. In addition, there is a reward scheme based on stock options for the employees awaiting implementation. This has focus of motivating the employees so that they improve on their personal level performances, and retention of employees. Moreover, Human Resource Department will ensure that health care improvement takes place and retirement plans implementation occurs at the same time. Since employees have individual needs of advancement in career paths, provision of career path in a transparent manner will occur. This will have a backing of Total Quality Management. In this, for each initiative an investment of 4,000,000 will occur. Therefore, a diminishing return on the investment occurs if more of the investment per initiative takes place.
The strategy that will aid in achieving the desire of employee performance will be that of posing a query. The query will be what was done to get the current performance? In addition, what has to be done to improve on the performance? Potential identification will involve changing job responsibilities for various employees while matching their personal competencies with the jobs. Finally, reward scheme strategy will involve setting targets that will be met on a monthly basis. The employees who attain these targets then qualify for the compensation. Development of appropriate managerial strategy is essential for every organization. Management strategy helps an organization to collect and utilize the available resources and opportunities to realize profits and become competitive in the market (Armstrong and Kotler, 2008).
Selection of good staff is very crucial. The main aim of the selection process will be to get the most qualified applicant from all the potential applicants. The structure of selection will involve scoring candidates in terms of their experience, the level of knowledge they possess, their mental and physical abilities, the distinction in intellectual levels, personal self-drive, and different leadership abilities. The scoring system will use statistics tool of normal distribution curve, which will aid in eliminating any kind of freak judgment. Training is another aspect of maintaining good company staff. The major aim of training is to develop the employees’ attitudes, skills that are needed for them to carry out their various tasks, understanding, and personal awareness. This will arise due to the fact that, globalization is taking place and levels of technology are improving throughout. Training sessions will be occurring after every three months. This will aid in creating room for analysis of training needs and preparation of the same. However, training session can take place when a need of the same arises at anytime. The process of training needs will involve, employees attending training workshops, involvement of the employees in the process of research work, and organizing employees talks from specialized mangers (Civil Service Branch, 1995).
The issue of technology is also considered when developing strategies for improving an organization. Information Technology (IT) is the major factor that leads to organizational advancement (Levin institute, 2010). IT is heavily rooted in all the corners of the planet earth. It a common practice to find human beings in all the continents either use mobile phones to communicate or surf, and also some own their own personal computers or they visit the widely established business of cyber cafe’s to surf. This worldwide advancement in technology has seen to it that many organizations managers adopt the new technology. This has been so since most of the current global business transactions are been carried out via the internet. The changes in technology have further triggered the managers to adopt them in the management systems. These management systems help the manager to keep an effective track of the organization ranging from employee management to, organization process management.
The changes in technology finally, also aid managers in undertaking conference calls, which assist them in sharing of information globally. This kind of global social interaction due to technology induces new concepts to managers that they use to change various structures of their organizations. In addition, the changes in technology have aided in knowledge management for organizations, because of this, the managers have adopted the changes and have implemented the same. It is the common practice to find managers today run the organizations through application of technology. In this, managers communicate via the internet to get and disseminate information without a need of physical presence. In conclusion, the changes in technology influence the management process of managers largely than is the effect of globalization.
