A) .Analysis section:
The chapter, “Character Development and Good Sporting Behavior” ,presents elements and development of good sporting behavior ,where it explains how effective sporting behavior develop ,how the behavior is influenced ,and the relationship between good sporting behavior and moral reasoning. The chapter attribute that there is no universally accepted definition of good sporting behavior, but in a nutshell it asserts that all definitions relates to morality and the idea of engaging in sporting activity where an individual play with his or her heart while at the same time respecting their opponents.
As a component of sport, morality establishes itself as a component of doing what is right, while at the same time acting in a manner which is in accordance with the established universals. Morality is coined to include elements of fair play, good sporting behavior, and good individual character, which all act in unison to establish good character development and sporting behavior. The book chapter regards that there is a very close relationship between character development and physical activity, but studies reveals there is no credible evidence to conclude that participation in sports create better or worse people. Regardless of of its shortcomings, sports participation act as deterrent to negative behavior, and this is in respect to juvenile delinquency which has been tormenting the society for a very long time, in respect to upsurge of youth involvement in issues and activities which seem to break the law in general. Therefore, good sporting behavior is established via social learning, structural – developmental and social – psychological approaches which define good sporting behavior , establish models for appropriate behavior, encourage and reinforce appropriate sporting behavior, and finally establish why good behavior in sports is requisite.
B) .Reaction section:
This chapter is of great importance in fostering good sportsmanship in that it spells out things that ought to be done in order to promote good behavior in and out of the sporting field.
Apart from indentifying critical factors that character development and good sporting behavior, the book chapter establishes issues that affect the society, more specifically the issues of deterrent behaviors when people are idle. It’s clear from analyzing this book chapter that in sports rational judgment is usually based on moral, ethics as well as personal judgment in the issues involved. The authors of this book acknowledges that human beings have a propensity to engage or live in an integral place and this forms the morality based on motive from an eventual commandment to be adopted by all men.
I regard elements of fair play, good sporting behavior, and good individual character to be very important in character development and good sporting behavior, where respect for others establishes a foundation for moral values and effective sporting behavior.Respect is a very important part of life, for instance, if a player is respected, it makes him feel good and in return, he or she respects you. With connection to these, if such a person fails to respect another, he himself would not be admired, and over time, he would grow up to be a very rude and inconsiderate person. Morality can thus be acquired through the manner in which we conduct ourselves in sports; for instance, respecting coaches and other players will influence how the people treat another person. More so, the manner in which someone treats others determines how others relate to you. Having reviewed this chapter, I have come to understand a number of important things. I have thus come into terms that the book chapter presents problem faced in the sports field. This is a good book extract, and I encourage other people, more specifically sports psychologist to read it.
