Engineering that is applied to chemical industry is known as Chemical Engineering. Chemical engineering can be applied to physics, biology, microbiology, chemistry and biochemistry. The chemical engineers play an important role in designing and inventing new processes, planning and operating amenities. Mechanical Engineering applies the laws of motion, material science and physics and mostly deals with the machines. The mechanical engineers create machines, new technologies to make the life easier for everyone. The large industries that employ mechanical engineering are the manufacturing industries, automotive, aerospace, fabricated metal products any industries that involved machinery, sheet metal and molds. Chemical engineers find employment in industries like scientific research and development, chemical manufacturing, synthetic fiber and rubber industries, medicine and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The difference between chemical engineering and other types of engineering is that the chemical engineers apply chemistry knowledge along with other engineering disciplines to their field.
Mechanical engineering has been from decades and there have been many inventions and discoveries in this field. Chemical engineering is fairly new compared to Mechanical engineering and there are many innovations in this field, for example, scientists have developed medicines that can reduce the impact of AIDS on a human, they have also put forth a step in inventing a medicine that can keep a person always young and increase the life span. As there are more opportunities for innovation in chemical engineering it is considered to be a booming field with a good pay package, whereas mechanical engineering has been since decades and most of the products are considered to be stable and saturated and the pay package is considerably lower. Though both the disciplines require intelligence and a passion to research in their field, chemical engineering requires lots of knowledge on various chemicals and its reactions. In chemical engineering the economic ways of utilizing the energy and materials are developed as a result of good experience in mathematics, natural sciences, and chemicals. Knowledge on Motion is required to design engineering systems, products and tools in Mechanical Engineering.
The subjects of chemical engineering and mechanical engineering vary, though there are some common subjects between them, like Mathematics. The students of mechanical engineering are expected to have knowledge on the concepts of chemistry, and chemical engineering. Mechanical engineers learn fluid mechanics that deals with the dynamic qualities of fluids in closed hydraulic systems and large open hydraulic systems, for example, the ocean. Robotics and Product engineering is also studied as basics of mechanical engineering. On the contrary, chemical engineering involves studying about the polymers, biotechnology, catalytic reaction and so on. Mechanical engineers use the concepts of mechanical engineering along with computer-aided software to design various products and manufacturing plants.
Both the engineering disciplines are related to the financial health of the industries where they are implemented, and any industrial strength depends on the services offered only in the initial stages to set up the industry or the facility. When the facility or the manufacturing plant is set, or when the new fabric designed for the textiles or apparels is complete, there will be hardly any scope for the engineers in both the fields. Nanotechnology, an emerging technology has opened its doors for both the chemical and mechanical engineers in research and development.
