The music starts slow, like something smooth, gliding throught water and perhaps with waves around. We go around in circles and circles as if on a marry-go-round. And the excitement comes to an end. We are as if in a small room working on something, trying to finish it and always having something else to improve. It is as if we are trying to push a ball up the hill, but it keeps rolling down. And we are back on the water, rocking back and forth with waves splashing around. But it looks like it is time to come on land. The boat goes slower and slower, until it comes to a complete stop. We get off.
Foster: Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair
It all starts with a light little tune. And then we hear a gene and all the beautiful comparisons. It seems that the singer is dreaming. Just like that we get caught in his dream world. The song is so calm and sweet that you cannot but feel for our hero. It is not hard to listen to it. A most refreshing and relaxing tune.
Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique, IV, March to the Scaffold
Something war-like. Drums, horns, footsteps, marching It all grows and explodes. We are face to face with the picture. We see the soldiers marching in front of us, followed by their captain and something big between them, something surprising. Perhaps it is some kind of weapon. Now there are triumphant horns announcing the beginning or celebration of something. But not everyone is celebrating. Some are hiding in the crowd. No matter, the horns are still proclaiming what they intend to. The horns were definitely announcing war. Now they are aggressive, followed by drums. The periodical explosions try to get the write spirits in their soldiers. They are not to be standing about. They have to more and be active. The battle starts. The fighting grows and subsides. But the end does come. The proclamation of war. It has begun.
Wagner: Die Walkure (The Valkyrie), Act III
This is the way I start huge project. I start with something small and then step by step I develop it into what my goal is. I build one thing upon the next. There are little goals that are included into the original one. Small celebrations are held throughout the way. But not everything goes smoothly all the time. Some things are sidetracked. That is why it feels even better to get back on track. Whatever happens, there are always problems that slow us down. There is always someone who doesn’t want me to success, someone stopping me and trying to confuse.
Haydn: String Quartet, Op. 76, No. 3 (Emperor), II
A nice peaceful introduction. Everything is at peace when all of a sudden we see lively butterflies flying about. They are going from one flower to the next as the wind flows around us. Is there a bird singing a beautiful song on a branch? Yes, definitely, it is a swallow. But everything good comes to an end. It is slowly getting dark and we have to leave this little paradise. Just like when I was little and had to leave from that beautiful and fund nature vacation. Everything is packed up and prepared for departure. It seems like even the trees around us are crying. They will also miss me. But sooner or later, I come to peace with the idea that all of this joy has to be left behind. Something else will be in the future and will also make me happy. Yes, I need to tell it to me a couple of time, just to convince myself, but it works out in the end.
Beethoven: Symphony No. 5, in C minor, Op. 67
A tempest. A storm is around us. We are trapped in it and there seems be not way out! But what is that? Where did that light come from? Suddenly it doesn’t seem so hopeless. Perhaps there is a way to get home safely and even have fun with it. Yes. There is. But the road home is still tricky. There are some winding paths and who knows what is hiding there. Things keep repeating themselves. We are back in the storm, there’s trouble but hope never dies. At the end, we make it home and succeed!
Beethoven: Piano Sonata in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2 (Moonlight), I
It is a dark place with something lurking in the corners. It’s not quite a nightmare but it is definitely scary. Yes, there is some light here and there, but it is not enough. It sends Goosebumps up my back. The calm, terrifying, unavoidable future.
Mozart: Don Giovanni, Act I, Scene 2
The person is almost outraged. Why? – is his question. There is a triangle. Perhaps it’s a love one. A man, another man and a woman. They are all as if fighting. It will probably lead to no good.
