Christian Gospel Essay

The Christian gospel often receives mixed perceptions in the contemporary culture. These varied perceptions stem from the diverse belief systems, moral values, intellectual standpoints, cultural perspectives and many other such standpoints which exist in our culture.
Various moral reasons often emerge in opposition towards the Christian gospel in the current world. The Christian gospel for instance, strongly speaks against homosexuality and same sex unions and also against abortions. From the Christian perspective according to the bible, God disapproves same sex unions as a perversion and all who involve themselves in such associations are headed for eternal damnation. The Christian gospel also believes in the sanctity of life and that life is sacrosanct. As such, abortion is regarded as murder. Both of these viewpoints present moral dilemmas in the contemporary culture where pro-life and sexual orientation debates abound.
The Christian gospel is also rejected on some emotional grounds such as the presence of evil in the world. According to the society, a loving God such as the one presented in the Bible should not overlook the current societal evils that exist in the world unabated. This ‘oversight’, according to the society, does not depict the actions of a loving God and as such, it is a highly emotive issue.
On intellectual grounds, the Christian gospel is mainly opposed on account of the cross and on faith grounds. According to the Christian gospel, Christ died on the cross and offered a way for salvation through believing in Him as God’s Son and the sinner’s savior. Herein lies the stumbling block for intellectuals. The very thought that God became man is hard to grasp intellectually, leave alone the requirement to believe on the actions of a man who died more than two millenniums ago in order to be forgiven.
Christians can however be instrumental in addressing some of these pertinent issues in several ways. First, by living in love, both in actions and words, the world and the society at large, can embrace the Christian gospel more easily. Additionally, getting acquainted with the correct interpretation of the gospel of Christ and increasing knowledge on the bible will help Christians to communicate the Christian gospel in a better way.
