Sources in Patterns of World History
Introduction
History is a mirror of our past. It provides a chance to learn from our mistakes and pave a smooth path for the future. Everything that happened in the past can be the step stone for the future. There is not doubt that only those nations are successful who learn from their history. In order to do that it is essential to read and understand the history of different nations and countries (Sivers, Peter, Desnoyers, Charles, Stow & George, 2012). We are given a fabulous chance to educate our self with a fine peace of literature that illustrates and summarize the history of the world. Not only has that it explained the impact of these countries on the different regions on the world. It was one of the best reading experiences of my life as I had a chance to understand what always fascinated and mesmerized me “our history”
Sources patterns of the world history volume 2
A descriptive book includes almost 200 texts. The book covers the history of USA, Japan and Europe. The author has an impartial and practical approach about the happening. Not only is that he successful in making it interesting and addictive. Every chapter has an interesting dimension. The best thing that I liked about the book is that (Sivers, Peter, Desnoyers, Charles, Stow & George, 2012).
About the Author and the writing style
The writer uses the descriptive style of the writing that is informative. Sometimes he uses illustration and examples that make the scenario clearer. The writing is divided into chapter with a focus point for the reader. This makes the book even more interesting (Sivers, Peter, Desnoyers, Charles, Stow & George, 2012). In this, easy I will briefly mentions some of the points that especially grabbed my attention while reading chapter 29, 30 and 31.
Chapter 29 Reconstruction, the Cold War, and Decolonization 1945-1962
This chapter includes some interesting readings such as the concepts of Capitalist Democracy and Communism, the cold war with its durations, mechanism and its impacts. Not only that it address important questions such as how the post cold war world looked like and the changes it has bought in the cultures of the and the society of war North America, Europe, and Japan. It also covers the industrialization in the Latin America (Sivers, Peter, Desnoyers, Charles, Stow & George, 2012).
Apart from the cold war, it describes how the world has changed. How the world reacted or accepted the rock and roll culture and what was the impact of it. In this chapter, the most interesting topic that especially got my attention was the reshaping of the world with time. Decolonization, Israel, and Arab Nationalism in the Middle East, Africa and Asian. The concept of the map and using it to focus power is very informative (Sivers, Peter, Desnoyers, Charles, Stow & George, 2012).
Chapter 30 the End of the Cold War, Western Social Transformation, and the Developing World 1963-1991
The three chapter that I am reviewing now mostly focus on the cold war and the post cold war world. This chapter talks about the cold war climax, the decline of the world super power the Soviet Union. It explains in details about the causes and impact on the today world. The dissolution of the Soviet Union has transformed the west in society, culture and power and mad the US the only super power of the world. An interesting dimension here was how this enhanced power has changed US attitude and approach towards the other countries. It also talks about the challenges that the new super powered faced by being the unique super power (Sivers, Peter, Desnoyers, Charles, Stow & George, 2012).
In this chapter the other things that I loved while reading is when the author talks about the Civil Rights Movements. But what is like particularly in this chapter are some success stories of countries that were tagged as "Underdeveloped" achieved the title of "Developing" World, from 1963-1991. One such interesting example is the China. It is no doubt leading the world economy today. Chapter 29and 30 talks about how china stood on its feed. From a poppy nation to the world leaders, China is no doubt an example for the whole world.
Chapter 31: Globalization and Challenges to Modernity, 1991-Present
This deals with topic that in my opinion are different from the other chapter that I have reviewed today. It involved the concept of capitalist democracy in the modern world. It mechanism and working. It answers some informative question such as the difference between the traditional and modern democracy (Sivers, Peter, Desnoyers, Charles, Stow & George, 2012). The concept globalization and its impact on the present day world. What was particularly interesting for me was the detailed description of the role of US in the world after 1990. The ultimate powers, its impact and consequences are one of the most interesting part of the whole book (Sivers, Peter, Desnoyers, Charles, Stow & George, 2012).
Conclusion
Reading this book is a reveling experience. Every chapter has its own importance and quantum of interest. In this chapter, I was particularly interested in the development strategies of China, the impact, position and role of USA after post war. No doubt, that ultimate power brings huge challenges that the USA is currently facing. These problems and challenges are very deeply analyzed and described. The world culture and society how it changed, modified and reshaped the world is not doubt one of the best part of the book. World has change its shape, culture, society, power and economic status and this book provides a deep insight to all. For all the people who like to learn and educate themselves, this book can be a reading treat. It informs, educate and illustrate quenching the reading and learning desires of the reader.
