Cisco is one of the best software development companies. It has achieved great growth and success through both external and internal growth policies. External growth is achieved through mergers and takeover, whereas internal growth is achieved through expanding the business using one’s own resources. When internal growth is an option, there needs to be an increase in human resource of the company. Cisco has an affective policy of hiring the right people.
Cisco’s recruitment process is eight weeks long. It is a thorough process that looks at the individual’s personality, work ethics, and other important factors that contribute to the growth of the company and helps them achieving personal growth as well.
The first process in the recruitment process is the application. Cisco takes application from both its website and postal address. After the applications are received they are screened and remaining candidates are called for a test. This is to determine basic IQ of the applicant, and to determine how well the pressure can be handled. Successful candidates are then called an interview with the management. This again is to determine their personality and intelligence. In the end, the background check is done, before the letter of acceptance is sent to the successful candidates 2 . The interviews are on a medium level scale of difficulty. Basic questions regarding technology are asked. According to Glassdoor, the most asked question is about cloud computing in these interviews. After the interview, an acknowledgement email is sent to the interviewees.
This background check is conducted through several agencies and specialist organizations. Even FBI is offering a service of background check on employees in order to determine if there is any criminal record. Cisco uses specialist agencies to conduct background checks.
Online applications are an important process in expanding the human resource reach of any company. Through online applications, the Human Resource department can reach out to the talent that is located in far flung areas. The in charge of the process is the human resource manager. He along with the functional or departmental head finalizes the selection of the candidate. This enables them to hire the best talent that meets both the organizational values and is necessary for the department’s profitability and efficiency.
