Jeremy Bentham is one of the founders of the utilitarianism, that requires to seek of benefits in actions, people, situations and so on. The idea is that everything must be based on hedonic calculus. That is true and may be easy to follow, but there are difficulties of the ideology that may not bring it to the reality. That is why utilitarianism has problems from ethical point of view (Lewis).
First, the philosophy requires to evaluate each aspect of life and to analyze to find the benefits. The matter is that it is hard to do with several things at the same time. Actually, the paradox is that the idea is meant to make the life easier, but an attempt to think about everything and choose much more complicates it.
Second, the choice to be made is often made with benefits for the decision maker. That may be not ethical to the other people or even may cause them troubles. Usually people in this manner act very selfish, when they think first and last only about themselves. And even if there is no selfishness, nothing will stop if the beneficial choice must be made. In this case eve the human life can be sacrificed to improve a hundred more lives.
Finally, that is not always impossible to predict which case is more beneficial. That may lead to blind choice and empty hopes. For example, in case to take such a risk it is not possible to evaluate and compare all the consequences, since they depend on different factors. That is why only people with strong analytical skills and strategic mind can perfectly use this way of life (Calculating Consequences).
All in all, the idea is meant to be beneficial for a person, but it has a number of difficulties. First, the multitasking, then the distastefulness and finally, non-predictability. That all means that such a philosophy may be accepted only a special kind of people who are strong in analytics and forecasting.
