More often than not, individuals find themselves in classification situations of which they were previously not aware. High school is one such place where classification is rampant and individuals always walk in cliques. It is a strange phenomenon because these classifications only take effect in the school environment and never proceed to their personal and private life. It is an unfortunate event because there are some students who might feel left out of the system, or might be deemed unfit to join certain cliques. These classifications are a result of different social interactions and positions in the school curriculum. This dissertation is an in-depth analysis of these classifications and the factors that act as prerequisites to the divisions.
It is evident that one of the main divisions in the school ground is based on the individuals who play different sports. Due to the enormous amounts of time students in the same group will spend together, they end up hanging around each other even after the games are done with. This is because there is an unspoken bond between these individuals, and anyone else who tries to infiltrate the group is deemed an outsider. These individuals are always prejudice towards those students they feel do not match up to their standards. It is quite unfortunate to have these groups because of the enormous strain they put on students to feel the need to match up o their standards.
Sororities are also a factor that students, especially the ladies, use to classify themselves. Sororities are societies in school that are aimed at achieving a common purpose upon which they are agreed. They are sisterhoods and brotherhoods who work towards a common goal and purpose. It is evident that these students spend too much time together and they always work together even after their meetings. These individuals always spend time with their own, and they are reluctant to spend time with any individual that does not belong to their sorority. Some of the students might think that these sorority members might exhibit a false sense of achievement and entitlement. There are instances when they look down upon those individuals who they deem unfit to join their society.
The cheerleaders also form a cluster and classification in school. Albeit being the most popular students in school, they do not use their fame towards helping the students. More often than not, they are vain and ensure that they have the attention of the school. Always walking in cliques, they openly look down upon the students that are not in their clique. Their false sense of importance is evident in the manner with which they treat those students who are of no importance to them. There is a tendency of the cheerleaders to demean those students who are not in their circle.
There are those students who are deemed nerds and often do not have many friends. Many a times they sit alone and wonder why they are not part of the different cliques in school. They would do an array of things to be included in the cliques, especially by the popular students. They are categorized by their distinct low self-esteem and gullibility. They are always in the background. Due to the publicity the poor people get, these individuals often find themselves feeling unworthy. It is their right to know that their popularity does not define the people that they are.
Other classifications depend on the social status that the students have placed upon themselves. Some students might feel that their families might be wealthier than the rest of the students. These selected few often stay together in school and have no respect for the students who do not live up to their standards. They have to have a certain fashion style and live a certain lifestyle. They do not hold in high esteem those students who oppose their lifestyle and their treatment towards other students. These are the students who always dominate the school’s extracurricular events such as their beauty pageants. It is evident that they do not tolerate a majority of the students because they always have a false sense of importance.
It is evident that in schools there has to be different classifications amongst the students. These classifications arise from the extra-curricular activities that the students engage in after class. It is not uncommon to notice that the students of the same sports will always confide in each other and spend time in those groups. Cheer leaders are no different. They engage in activities that always lead to them forming cliques and spending time together. Sorority houses are no different they have a secret to sisterhood which they follow to the letter. It is difficult to find students in fraternities spending time with students who are not. Then there are those students who have a false sense of entitlement. They bring social class division to school. They always make those students who do not act like them feel uncomfortable and left out. By all means, students should try and avoid these classifications in school. It is a prerequisite to a healthy school life.
