Describe one student’s behavior from either scenario, including relevant examples of how this behavior affects the learning environment.
Liz is unable to follow the class for longer period. She has problem with paying attention to teacher’s instructions and finishing projects. She is very active and often leaves her seat and wander around the classroom. This distracts other students and prods some of them to follow her example. It also disrupts the lesson’s flow and prevents some students from following the class.
Describe a possible trigger (i.e. antecedent) of student’s behavior, including relevant examples from the scenario to justify your claim.
Liza might have attention deficit disorder. She is not able to focus during the class. This could lead to forgetting teacher’s instructions or misinterpreting them. She tends to interrupt her work on specific projects during the class, walk around the classroom and communicate with other students. She is very active and social and seems to miss interaction with other students.
Describe an instructional intervention that could be used to address the student’s behavior, including relevant examples from the scenario to justify your claims.
Since Liz tends to seek attention and company of other students, an instruction intervention was given in order to help her stay focused during the class. During the literary research project she will work in pair with her student colleague, Tasha. This will provide her with the opportunity to interact and share responsibilities. Tasha is very detail oriented and responsible. She follows teacher’s instructions closely and she should be able to help Liz stay focused and dedicated to the project. This working in pair study technique could also help Tasha to build up her confidence. Working with someone who needs her support could strengthen her mentoring side and help her with taking over the responsibilities for her own actions and doings.
Describe the way to incorporate an appropriate type of technology to enhance teaching, referencing a different student from either scenario as a target for the technology.
Alex tends to talk during the class and interrupts the lesson flow. He likes to be in the center of attention. While working on W. Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” play, the intervention instruction was given to Alex. He will do the comparative approach between Shakespeare’s play and movie “Romeo and Juliette” directed by Baz Luhrmann, 1996. Special accent is to be put on integration of Shakespeare’s text into modern environment. The presentation should be up to 15 minutes long. Through this activity Alex will get positive attention rather than negative, and his feeling of responsibility will rise. In the same time, other students will have the opportunity to learn new aspects of Shakespeare’s eternal contemporaneity.
Describe the way to incorporate an appropriate type of technology to enhance learning, referencing a different student from either scenario as a target for the technology.
Wilson rarely joins class discussions and it is not easy to get a feedback on material understanding from him. He showed interest in yesterday’s Art History class. This is why he is given a task of making Power Point presentation about Italian Renaissance in Art. The presentation should recapitalized the previous lesson and give light intro to new lesson. It should be up to 30 slides big. Literature given: Art History text book and H.W. Janson “History of Art”. This should show the level of Wilson’s understanding of the class topic and motivate him to do independent research. It will result in broadening his knowledge and giving him confidence in learning.
Describe the way to incorporate an appropriate type of technology to enhance engagement, referencing a different student from either scenario as a target for the technology.
Walden rarely talks in class and it is not easy to follow his progress in material understanding. He showed extended interest in Solar System topic. Since he attend science cap, it is assumed he has some pre-knowledge of this topic. To raise his level of engagement he is given a task to prepare 15 minutes long video presentation of Solar System with special focus on planets and their moons. He is free to use textbook resources and National Geographic material available online. This should motivate Walden to do more independent research of lessons and take ownership in learning process. It is a good way to practice public speaking and open to the discussions.
Describe the way to incorporate an appropriate type of technology to enhance motivation, referencing a different student from either scenario as a target for the technology.
Nancy is interested in certain topics she finds important. If this factor is not present, she has hard time following the lesson flow. Since she is a member of an extra-curriculum photography and movie-making club, she was given a task to help Walden in preparing 15 minute long video presentation of Solar System for the next class. She can contribute with her knowledge of video-making. This way she will work on lesson material with the sense of purpose. This activity will give her new creative ideas of approaching lesson materials and motivate her in the future.
