Close Looking Exercise: A Sample Essay For Inspiration & Mimicking

The first picture appears to be a poster or a picture, which can either be printed or it can be an image on some screen. It appears to be the poster or the picture of a movie or film, which is captured as still life. It can also be the work of photography. There are two languages mentioned on the image; one is Chinese, and the other is English. The words say ‘Mountains May Depart,’ which probably depict the idea behind the creation of the image. Upon looking at the image, there are certain elements which can be clearly seen such as the two figures in the image, which mainly reveal their faces. One of them is a woman, and the other is a man. In the background, there are other smaller figures, which appear to be standing in a mixed crowd of men, women, and children. The crowd appears to be cheering on the woman and the man, who are apparently sitting on a motorbike. There is a sharp white light of the motorbike, and its frame is visible as well. By their facial features, the woman and the man, as well as the faces in the crowd, appear to be Chinese. This would explain the use of Chinese language in various places all around the image. There is also the use of numbers in the image, which have been typed in the form of a date. The typography reveals the title, in both languages, to be placed in the center of the picture and it is written in a bold color, in order to show emphasis and to reveal clarity for the viewer. On the top right corner, there is some text written in Chinese, which is terse and present there without supportive translation. There is some additional text in the English language, which is placed on the right side, in the middle of the image and it somewhat covers the crowd in the background.
Amongst the elements, there is another noticeable factor which is the vibrant use of colors. The image appears to be a splash of colors, which appear to be in an aerial or an atmospheric perspective which makes the colors look clearer at one point, and then they move further back, which diminishes their brightness. The colors are vibrant, and they are mainly in hues of orange, red, a little bit of yellow and blue. The colors appear to get smeared, which also provides the illusion of speed. When objects are moving at fast acceleration, the scenery surrounding them gets blurred, and this especially happens with light, as it appears in blots and spots that are blurry and unclear. The colors seem to melt into one another meanwhile their boundaries remain differentiated. The colors and the images seem to coordinate and communicate with one another. The motorbike and the people riding it as well as the crowd that seems to be cheering them along, including the aerial use of colors, paints a picture with his dotted by artistic language instead of words. The size of the image is also noticeable. The people that have to be highlighted are sizably larger than those who have to be present for the show.
As far as spacing is concerned, the image is completely devoid of any space, and the focal point of the image is the one concerning the man and the woman who have been placed at the center of the image. The crowd is on their right side which proves them as their spectators. The frame covers the message of the image as well as the characters inside, by highlighting them and not covering their faces completely with colors. The woman’s face, bright and smiling, is visible although the man’s face has been partly covered with shades of blue color that appear to be dissipating from it. There is the minimalist use of lines in the image, however as the colors blend with one another, they appear to give the impression of brush strokes as they disperse in the form of lines.
The lighting is bright for the picture, and it highlights all the prominent areas which need to be covered in the picture. The texture looks smooth because what is shown in the picture is the light which seems to be coming from electrical means hence they create the illusion of blurriness and stretching due to watching them at high speed. The resolution of the picture appears to be a low resolution because of the highlighting of only one face clearly while all the rest is in the background and appears to be diminishing or blurry.
The collective features such as the motorbike and the man and woman along with the crowd, the jittery blurred lights and the expression of happiness sets the mood that the image is meant to give a positive message. It might be depicting the use of light as optimism, success and reaching a goal after striving for long. Looking at the picture for a while emanates the vibe of happiness and reaching a goal or destination, which is effective with the use of the motorbike.
