This essay provides the general information about the collaboration as the way to successful and productive way of team existence. It shows the ways in which collaboration can be either useful or not. Also, the essay provides all the fields in which one may have use of collaboration. All the main elements of collaborative culture are also provided.
At first, let us describe what the term of collaboration means in this context. Collaboration is cooperation between people united under the common purpose in order to achieve success. Collaboration is a basis of any kind of team existence. The main task is to use it in the right way. It can be either a way to productive functioning of a team or it may have a negative influence on a team. For example, there are some deviations from a “good” collaboration. It can be a person who cooperates with a bad group – we will call this case ‘misconnecting’, or disconnecting when trying to avoid collaboration at all, and the last one will be hyper-connection when there are too many tasks without a thorough understanding of none of them.
Still, regarding collaboration as the main element of a successful change, it will be useful to point out the main elements of collaborative culture. The first one is setting goals. Not one great goal but a few core goals in order to focus on them without exhausting the team. The second element is a guiding coalition. This means that in the team there should be to people who are well-acquainted with the goals and the strategy and can dwell on them with the whole team. The emphasis here falls on listening and collective solving of problems. The third element is based on team-work. The purposes that have to be achieved are mutual understanding and respect, support, sharing of knowledge and all kind of changes that will lead to development and strengthening of a group. The fourth element deals with individual capacity. It depends on the employees. The point is to choose those people who are eager and not afraid to learn something new from those who are better. Also, the employees themselves should not be afraid of hiring someone who can be even better than themselves in some way. It is the point of collaboration – the ability to study from others.
Finally, the last element is a collaborative competition. Competition improves the result. It should not be forgotten that only through competition people achieve success. And it is not only about competition in the external world and other companies – it is about competition inside the team. The members of the team should compete between each other in order to evolve.
This is general information about the usefulness of collaboration and the main elements of its culture that can be useful for every team in order to gain success in any kind of action.
