Colors usually have an impact in our day to day activities. The main aim of this study is to determine the meaning and uses of colors in different places. Understanding the meaning of colors is very important so that we understand how to use the colors appropriately. Colors create physical and emotional reactions and can be used as a non-verbal from of communication. Different colors usually induce different reactions in viewers. Some of the reactions are culture dependent.
People tend to react differently when they see different types of colors. The emotional reactions that may occur are also culture specific. For instance in Asian countries, brides where black while in the U.S brides wear white and black is only worn by widows as a symbol of mourning.
Colors have been used since time immemorial to depict different attributes. However, there are some colors which have universally acceptable meanings across cultures and time. They include: Red (symbol of danger and hotness), dark-blue (mature and trustworthy), green (comforting and vegetation), white (purity and cleanliness), Yellow (emotional and caution), pink (youthful and feminine) and orange (emotional and organic).
Colors are used by the political class for several purposes. In most countries of the world, the national flag bears different colors which have different meanings. It is therefore a necessity that citizens understand the use of colors for several reasons. In the US for instance, the blue color represents the Republicans and Red for the Democrats and the white stars represent the states. It is therefore necessary for governments to train people on the use of colors and what they depict. Wrong choice of color leads to wrong passage of information which may be disastrous. For a good design job, the designer needs to be very selective on the colors he/she uses. This makes it very attractive and appealing to the eye. The design industry has been a major source of employment for the many people in different countries. Apart from the government training people on the use of colors for the national image, a lot of funding is used for training people on design jobs so that they can become self reliant. This practice is very common in Asian countries and some part of the Middle-East.
Fashion is all about something being attractive. Poor choice of color makes an item less attractive. The fashion industry has taken color blending to a whole new level. Good choice of color combination makes items attractive and thus a boost in sales. The fashion industry tends to have a new look now and again. Whenever such a choice is to be made, extensive research has to be made in order to ensure that no clashing takes place and no offence is committed to different cultures. A good choice of blends usually boosts sales in the fashion industry and so it must be treated with a lot of care bearing in mind the weight it has.
Political parties have different identities to avoid confusion. Apart from the party sign, colors play the most important role in the identity of political parties. This can be seen whenever there is a political rally whereby the main identity will be the party’s color. Every member of a political party will try the much he/she can in order to put on attires which are compliant to the party’s color. The color is a major identity of political parties.
