Stephanie K:
Divorce rates are rising throughout the world, especially in the West. However, the sad part is that even Asia has fallen into this spiral. Divorce rates are increasing by leaps and bounds in countries where the family system used to be quite strong. While new laws can be partly blamed for this change, it is true that the family system of the past usually left girls with no choice. They were forced to compromise, even in situations where they were subjected to domestic abuse. However, with the increase in education and awareness, couples find it better to separate rather than lead miserable lives together. A change in mindset has obviously contributed to this thinking pattern.
Robert:
The deeply rooted stigmas are extremely difficult to eliminate. The negativity associated with divorce is commonly found in Asian countries. However, it is surprising to find that a male is also treated differently for being divorced. It is usually seen that the female gets oppressed throughout her life. Ruthless comments are thrown her way to tell her that she failed at the one thing she was supposed to be good at marriage. In countries where a huge part of the population is illiterate, this case is even worse. Parents refuse to take back their daughters if they get divorced. And they are usually stared at and gossiped about like they are missing a limb. Judging people merely by reason of being divorced is one of the cruelest things a human being could do to another of his kind.If two people cannot find a common ground, the most practical solution is to separate ways. Why is that so difficult to accept?
