Communication: Importance of Teams
The efficient employment of resources is very critical for the success of a firm. In a health organization, firms employ different resources and it is upon the organization to ensure that a firm's management to ensure that they hire competent professionals. These professionals must work as a team irrespective of their cultural backgrounds. Through the teamwork, the employees become very productive and the customers get satisfied through the services they get. Satisfying the clients requires a strategic planning process that eventually improves the medical organizations efficiency. It is not only in the medical fields where teamwork is essential, all organizations in all industries work in groups to achieve their common objective. Despite the importance of teamwork in organizations, this essay focuses on the importance of teamwork in the medical field.
Presently, health issues are becoming very complex hence making the health professionals and their clients to be critically concerned. Nowadays health care systems work in teams and include their clients in the decision making in order to attain the best results. to achieve the best results the patients issues are referred to and the organization core value revolve around ensuring the clients get the best medical attention to improve their health. “Teams and teamwork strategies have been recommended as an important consideration in the improvement of many complex organizations, including health care. (Croskerry, Cosby, & Schenkel, 2008, p. 177). In the medical field, the teams consist of doctors, health educators, administrators, various professionals and nurses. The patients and other consumers support the medical professionals in making decisions that are crucial while they are being administered. By involving the patients and other consumers, the medical professional derive satisfaction as the clients give them positive feedback. Through working as a team, the medical professionals learn from each other. As they consult with their clients, the clients get to learn about their medical status and hence reducing their chances of visiting the medical institutions. Their instances of reducing hospital visiting are increased through communications (Dean, 2008).
The doctors and other medical field professional are trained on how to effectively communicate with their clients and dispose medical information in such a manner that the clients get satisfied. Beside medical attention given to clients, when the patients note the collaborate teamwork among the medical professionals, that increases their chances of recovering since there is a positive environment. The doctors are trained on how to relate with one another irrespective their different personalities. This training involves education on leadership skills that enables equality and efficient decision-making skills. When all the medical professionals work as a team towards achieving a common objective, they derive job satisfaction and productivity.
According to Hill & Jones (20090, "The formal strategic planning process has five main steps" (p. 12), these steps are:
Fact Finding
Interpretation
Review and Refine
Strategic Planning
Tactical Execution
In most industries, it is crucial to carry out extensive market research in order to collect all facts that are important in making critical decisions. In the medical field, the facts are normally collected before diagnosing a patient. In this process, the medical officers identify the core values involving their clients before offering their services. The fact-finding mission involves critical assessment of the collected information after which the patients consider the resources at their disposal. The facts are them tables and the medical professionals plan their work strategically in order to give their clients the best medical attention.
After collection of the data, the data is interpreted in a professional way. During the interpretation, the client may be informed about their medical status and thereby contribute express themselves to the about their preferred medication. Professionally, interpretation of the data is referred top as possibility planning. Despite the client giving their opinion about their preferred medication, it is upon the medical officers to make the best decision about the best medication while taking into consideration their client opinion.
The other key tool in the strategic planning process includes reviewing and refining the decision made by the medical officials. This entails the professionals evaluating whether they have made the best decision that will guarantee quick recovery and achieve the best results. This eventually ensures that the best results are attained in both the short term and long term. The decision is audited and thereby ensuring that all the parties interest are considered.
Strategic planning requires the medical professionals perform their plans in an impeccable way. The medical professionals work on as a team a tactical execution process. In this process, they employ all the resources at their disposal and evaluating their progress. In case of any loophole, a strategic decision is made to ensure that the best results are attained.
In the military, aviation and other sectors of the economy, the workers are normally reorganized into teams so that they can achieve the best results at minimal cost. In reference to the aviation industry, the medical field has a lot positive issues that can improve the field. Virgin Atlantic and the south West Air Line have perfected the art of teamwork. Through the teamwork, the aviation industries have the been able to reduce their costs, improve the quality of their services, reduce the rate of employee rate of turnover and absenteeism, reduce conflicts, enhance creativity, and improve the employees flexibility and ability to cope with changes. The medical fields need to adapt teamwork since there are so many benefits when they work as a team. In order to survive the 21 century, many organizations are team oriented and that has enabled the organizations to reduce the levels of bureaucracy.
The medical field employees usually work as a team with the mission of offering the best medical services to their customers. The medical teams consist of a number of competent professionals who enjoy the opportunity of making decisions and ad infinitum work towards improving the organization reputation through excellent services. Through the teams, all the medical field organizations align their functions towards achieving a common goal.
Teamwork and effective multicultural communication are among the most critical organization processes that support problem solving. Through multicultural communication, all the workers work collectively since they are trained on how to relate with one another. When a problem arises, the organization workers work as a group and each employee is given an audience. After considering the possible solutions, the management ends up selecting the best possible solution (Oxford & Crookall, 1989).
The ability of a team to contribute towards problem solving process is determined by the team ability to put their individual differences aside and work towards a common goal. To solve the problem, the team through effective leadership ranks the problem and employs the best strategy to get the best results. During the problem solving process, the team is synchronized through mutual understanding and cooperation. More so, besides the team having a common goal, their other responsibilities include trouble shooting and solving any problem that arises. It is the different ideas from the team members that enable the team to make the best decision when a conflict arises. Without effective communication and communication, a team cannot achieve a common goal. The conflicts that arise in the team are solved through effective leadership coupled with the ability of the team members to adapt to changes and respect one another. More so, it is imperative to note that communication entails both verbal and non-verbal communication. It is a common occurrence for conflicts to occur in organization. The frequency of conflicts does not mean that a team is successful or not successful. In some instances, teams with frequent conflicts are more successful when there is effective and democratic leadership (Romig, 1996).
The ability of teams to achieve the best results is dependent on the management style employed in a firm. The medical field in the hospitality industry and patients interest must be considered. The medical professionals are trained ethically and treat the patients using the evidence-based practices. For a patient to recover fully, the team must collaborate since medication cannot be a one-man show. Through teamwork and effective communication, organizations offer the best services that make the clients to get satisfied. On the other hand, the team members get satisfied too since they achieve their common objective of improving their clients health.
