Communication in organizations
An organization should ensure that it takes its communication very vital, so that they can effectively inform there customers, staff, and other interest groups about various important issues that would be questioned and can cause various damages to the organization. The introduction of information communication technology (ICT) has eased the communication processes in the companies in many ways. ICT enables the company to reach a majority of people within minimum time, costs, and complication, it can also enable gives organization’s many platforms, like the company websites, social sites and other advertisement sites.
Just like any other technology, ICT has various limitations; it has reduced the one on one among the organization’s members. A communication through a company web site can allow for comments, but it misses the face to face aspect, which can provide immediate feedback to those involved in the communication, like through observing the body language of the person. The means, content, persons handling, privacy, and how information is presented always matter a lot in determining how much weight it will carry on the recipient and the meaning it will have on the recipient. Under this ICT based communication can be limited to content due to the space available for posting communication, since, internet based communication are always short and precise, locking out various crucial contents and clarifications that could be done through verbal dialogue. Privacy can be jeopardised through hacking, hackers can gain access to classified communication contents.
ICT can at times increase the speed of flow of information from the top management downward or vicevasa, this is because the target people are directly informed reducing the distance coved by the people delivering the information, but, this also lacks the vital feedback and the emphasis that could be expressed by formal letters and verbal communication (Alan, 2005, Conrad, & Poole, 2004).
Regulation of electronic based ICT, like the internet has proved very difficult to regulate. It is easy to hide identity and attack an organization through these platforms, impersonation is also a common thing under this, and inconveniences and communication breakdowns due to; virus attacks, hardware limitations, and software failure can disrupt the electronic communication platform. This can be overcome by constant updating of antivirus, making the people involved in the communication aware of the hardware requirements, and network traffic monitoring (Conrad, & Poole, 2004).
Information technology is inevitable and every organization should embrace it, however, more research is necessary for its regulation, content improvement and increase.
