Nursing services are key to the success of healthcare sector. The care providers offer services indiscriminately and effectively to all persons. The terms public health nursing, community health nursing, and community-based nursing are often applicable in the health centers and the nursing profession. Essentially, it is important to distinguish between the three terms because many people are not able to tell what roles the various nurses perform. Certainly, it is essential to define different nursing roles to help individuals to know the kind of nurses to approach for their problems and what problems to discuss.
The community-based nursing code of ethics differs with the national, and international ethics in its commitment, responsibility, accountability, and goals (participates to achieve what?). In community based nursing, the focus is on individual members and families of the locals. On the other hand, community and public health nursing focus on a larger population nationwide or globally. In fact, focusing on a larger population calls for greater accountability and responsibility. In addition, in community based nursing, the nurses participate to promote self-care and manage chronic or acute health condition whereas in national and international nursing the nurses work to preserve and protect the people’s health. Noticeably, it is very important to have different code of ethics in the different nursing roles. According to Porche (2004), different codes of ethics ensure that every nurse observes clear-cut goals and expectations to meet. Pertinently, this promotes efficiency.
Public health nurses reflect the concept of improvement of populations’ health, health promotion, and prevention. The most critical concept of their job borders on the improvement of the health condition of populations. Moreover, there is a great correlation between the descriptions of the various types of nursing and their practice because their duties focus on improving people’s health. According to Stanhope (2004), public health nurses participate in the formulation of health policies through the studies they conduct on improving peoples’ health. From a personal view, the most effective concept is that of carrying out health promotions and campaigns. In essence, this is because such campaigns help to reach a larger group of people within a short period. Consequently, the improvement of people’s health will be easier and more effective.
In conclusion, Nursing services are key to the success of healthcare sector. The terms public health nursing, community health nursing, and community-based nursing are often applicable in the health centers and the nursing profession. Therefore, it is pertinent to define various nursing roles in order to facilitate efficient healthcare service delivery.
