Community Essay Example

A community is a group of people who are bound by a common interest. They may have different backgrounds but there is one thing that binds them together. Within a community, they share a common goal and aspirations. As a Saudi Arabian national, one of the communities where I belong is the community of Saudi Arabian students in the United States. This community of mine is joined together by our nationality. Being foreign students in the United States, my community helps me to adjust in a foreign country. The support of fellow Saudi Arabian students is important to me because I feel that I belong to a family and I don’t feel alone. My identity as a Saudi Arabian national is not lost in this community. All of us can be ourselves, without any inhibitions. We share the same culture and we face the same challenges as foreign students. We share commonalities that make us a unique group from other communities. This group is a community because we have a feeling of cohesiveness and camaraderie, bound together by a common culture, values and beliefs. My community is a good support system which is very useful especially in times of difficulties with my studies.
My community of Saudi Arabian students organizes activities and events which help us become closer to each other. The community gives me a chance to other Saudi Arabian students and at the same time I can mingle with the others whom I already know. We have meetings where we discuss important matters that concern our members.
Being part of this community keeps me from feeling isolated, even if my family is not with me. Loneliness sometimes sets in because of the longing for the love of family back home but due to my community, I do not feel alone. I am happy that I am part of the Saudi Arabian students’ community.
