Profile of One Campaign
One Campaign is a global organization whose mission is to alleviate “extreme poverty and preventable diseases, particularly in Africa” (One Campaign, 2013). The organization encourages the values of advocacy, and speaking out to make the leaders create proactive policies and programs that save lives, put young people into schools and better the livelihood of their communities. One Campaign has been in existence since 2004 following the merger of 11 organizations, and some of the major activities they have carried out include enabling more than 6.2 million people from Africa to access Aids medication. The organization’s funding does not come from the public, rather from corporate bodies.
Although the organization’s headquarters are in Washington D.C, One Campaign has other branch offices in Germany, Belgium, South Africa, UK and France. Since One Campaign is a non-profit organization, it has always been exempted from taxation since inception as stated in section 501(C) 3. One Campaign is backed by are personnel of more than 3 million members, who are mainly involved in advocating change through advocacy. In the past, the organization has faced the challenge of tracking development assistance, and this led to the establishment of a specialized infographic tool for tracking the progress of their activities.

General Motors
General Motors (GM) is an American automotive corporation based in Detroit. GM is one of the world’s largest automotive sellers in the world, and employs more than 200,000 people across the globe (General Motors, 2013). Currently, the company has operations in more than 157 countries in the world. GM’s mission is to “provide products and services of such quality that our customers receive superior value while employees and business partners will share in our success and our stockholders will receive a sustained return on their investment”. The value statement, on the other hand, states “at GM, it is our actions that define our corporate responsibility commitment” (General Motors, 2013). GM is a listed company, and pools its funds from stockholders and ploughing back its profits.
Going by the number of sales, GM is the largest automotive seller, beating other major companies such as Toyota and Ford. In the latest financials released for the second quarter, GM made a net income of $ 1.2 Billion, and revenues hit $ 39.1 Billion. Generally, the latest financials are comparable with the company’s growth curve, which has been on a upward trend. However, GM’s revenues have not matched the average growth rate attained by its competitors. One of the most pressing challenges faced by GM, as well as other players in the industry, is the fluctuating oil prices. This has seen the company explore other sources of energy such as bio-fuels and hydrogen. Another grey are in GM’s management is the issue of high wage bills compared to its competitors. Although the issue has not been fully resolved, the company has taken strategic measures to reduce the cost of wage bill.
