The thesis of this paper is to bring out the concept of the architects who worked on the two great building, considering their intentions and procedure they used and maintained. The two buildings represent the nineteenth century and the twentieth century. The New York Times building which was finished in 2007 is one of the world’s tallest buildings. The building was designed by an architecture that based on the concept of modern buildings, the iron class designed to be draped in ceramic tubes which creates the ceramic .the building is a skyscraper. The project was announced in the year 2001 which it was planned to a 52 storey building located at the eighth avenue.
The site of the building was decided in order to obtain a developed and blighted properties, the ten buildings were condemned as they were in the wrong location ESDC purchased land from the people living around the place, it prevailed in the courts and got an order to build the tower.
The New York Times tower
Empire state building is located in New York City at in the midtown of Manhattan. After its full completion back in the 1931 it was recorded as the tallest building in the world which was later replaced by the construction of the world trade center but it currently stands as the third tallest in the united states.
The designer was able to stand it in1, 454 feet that is (443.2meters high) and 1,250feet which is an equivalence of 381 meters of roof height with a modification of an antenna spire. The total space for the office and other income generating service is2158 square feet that’s 85 stories. The designed in a unique art deco style that acting as an American cultural icon alongside with the role of being viewed as national historical landmark. Its bottom base lays on a five stories ground.
The Empire State Building
Shreve was the architectural firm behind the designing of the building and coordinating the workers mostly from the Europe. Its construction was facilitated by the fact that they were competing to become the tallest building. The workers were able to construction mostly five to six stories on a weekly basis thus taking an average of at least to its completion. Good cooperation from both the skillful designer and architectural firm made some relevance design and construction that the tenants would find their way into the building immediately after completion.
The building serve in a wide variety of activities it include to be feature in the classic films and a symbolic of the good life and treasure of new York attracting millions of people from all over the globe. The building in the making was topped with an enormous spire purpose to facilitate the dirigible. This spire would empower or rather ensures that the entire passengers within the New York City are in a good position to embark or disembark at any given time.
This building bears the title of being the last skyscrapers developed in New York with a remarkable impact to the general economy of the city. Though the building was affected by the great depression, when the stock market crash majority if the tenants shift their priorities thus leaving the office unrented and limited the other competitors to elevate their stories therefore dominating as the tallest building for over 40 years.
The locality of the building gave it a 360- degree view the New York City especially at the 86th floor. Ta good observation deck has attracted quiet a good number of visitor from the entire world to experience the aerial view of the city and also offering a suitable venue for film shooting and the literacy classic.
.
The Empire State building share common features to that of the New York Times building in regard to the topped spire in both of the building which facilitates the networking service within the city and improve the standards of the telecommunication of the passengers and the general public operations. In both building the airship terminal is on the roof top .
The two building have clearly reveal the designer’s intention to provide enough space for the people of New York city and the entire work to perform their economic and social activities at. It offers office space in most of their stories and promote adequacy in performance of duty with the help of the 73 elevators in the empire state building and 30 elevators in the New York Times.
The two building are designed with an apex shape that is bearing a broad bottom base and the rest of the stories are erected in a triangular shape for stability. Both designers intended to have to shift the center of gravity of the building to the bottom thus generating a strong foundation for the building to withstand the increasing numbers of stories.
Both projects took relatively a longer period of time for its completion since it demanded for qualified personnel for its planning and implementing them. These so them effectively and efficiently provide for the tenant the desired standards for the rented room.
The design of the tower took a great time of the architects working on it. it was designed by Renzo piano and FXFOWLE architects also Genser who provided interior design , night time identity was designed by an officer of visual interaction inc.. Basic detail s of the tower is it rises to about 748 feet from the ground to the roo0f and has an extension of 92 feet of the curtain wall and higher of up to 840 . the steel framed buildings that existed , the cruciform in the plan used a screen of 41.3 mm ceramic which mounted constructed on the curtain the transparency created is due to the rod that increase from the base to top and the steel bracing which is exposed at each of the four corner ‘notches’ of the tower.
The empire state know on the other hand of the 19th century ;was designed by different individuals since they had different motives to bring out the building in their own design and comfort, William Frederick lamb j, an architect influenced his partners to come up with as imp0le design which will bring out the layout of the tower , the building was designed to have a classical five store base that would give it a particular and sheer bulk which brings n the perfection of gi9ving the tower a unique grandeur.
The design team of the New York Times tower had experts like Renzo Plano building s and workshop who was the winner of the best architect in 1998. the sustainability promoted the green structure although it is not LEED certified , the designer to achieve stability of the building does its best to increase the efficiency of the energy , it is a basic building as glasses are used which shades some natural light into the building as compared with the buildings constructed in the nineteen century , for example the empire state building depicts the difference of the centuries the two buildings are in particular different on the looks , the new York towers building takes the shaped of a triangle just like their empire state building although differs as it diminishes at the end , while the new York times takes a uniform shape , the architects and the designers had the intention of making the building appear unique and take the modern shape which eases the utilization of space and the desire to have a sustainable and stable tower. Different designers for example the interior designers are different.
The designers provided the space for tenants to stay for example the times tower, 27th floor is lefty for occupation of the tenants. The empires state building on the other hand constructed space for the tenants but at different floor since it is the tallest as compared to the New York Times tower.
In conclusion the works of architectures take different forms and their works different thought they used same concepts in planning and supervising the project until the end. The ideas of the architects were to bring out a reliable building that is competent. The thesis statement therefore is confirmed as the years goes different designs take place and the use of advanced technology.
