This paper compares three state board of nursing namely Massachusetts, Maryland and New York. The functions and purposed of each of the three state board of nursing seem to be similar. The Massachusetts board of nursing serves the purpose of licensure, nursing education, and complaint resolution (Massachusetts State Board of Nursing, 2013). The New York state board of nursing is bestowed with the responsibility of licensing, nursing training, collection of consumer statistics & information, as well as consumer protection (New York State Board of Nursing, 2013). The Maryland board of nursing has the function of licensing, nursing education, consumer complaint resolution (Maryland Board of Nursing, 2013).
There are very minimal differences between the Massachusetts, New York, and the Maryland Board of Nursing. The only notable difference in the three websites is that both the Massachusetts and the New York board of nursing issue nursing scholarships and participate in initiatives to enhance community health awareness. However, it is not clear from the Maryland state board of nursing website whether the board participates in similar initiatives.
In all the three websites LPN is differentiated from RN based on the level of training that is received. LPN nurses in both cases receive training for between 9-12 months. On the other hands, RN nurses are holders of degrees in nursing. The training program for RN nurses in both cases takes between 3-4 years. The state laws of each state differ in terms of the verification process. All the states have different mechanisms of verifying their nurses and employees. However, the laws of all the three states emphasis the need for accountability and delivery of service by both nurses and medical aides. It is not very hard to find information regarding the three state boards of nursing. This is because all the three states’ board of nursing have well-defined and detailed website where consumers and providers can be able to obtain information regarding the responsibilities of the state nursing boards and the processes that they use in the execution of their mandates.
