Resorts constitute an inevitable segment of the tourism and hospitality industry. This paper will critically compare two resorts, the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and the Mirage, taking their amenities and target demographic market into account.
Critical Comparison
The resorts taken for comparison are the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and The Mirage that are owned respectively by The Blackstone Group and The MGM Resorts International. Both these resorts are operating in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is located on the Las Vegas Strip and it has close proximity to the airport, Sands Expo Convention Center, Clark County Library, and the Las Vegas Convention Center. This resort has 11 restaurants and a poolside bar. It provides room services 24 hours a day. The amenities of this luxury resort include nearly 3,000 rooms, restaurant space, spa and fitness facility, seat theatre, meeting and conference space, and different type of pools. The resort’s recreational facilities include outdoor swimming pools and spa tubs. It also offers additional leisure facilities such as health club, gymnasium, outdoor tennis courts, and a sauna. Similarly, The Mirage is located at the heart of the Las Vegas as it is surrounded by all casinos and tourist attractions in Las Vegas. As described in its website, The Mirage “features a French Polynesian theme, with palm trees, waterfalls, and lush gardens throughout” (qtd in ‘The Mirage Hotel and Casino’). The largest free standing marquee sign situated in front of The Mirage makes the resort a unique attraction in the Las Vegas. The major amenities of this resort include a business center, town car service, conference space, meeting rooms, express check-out, and recreational facilities like nightclub and outdoor pool. Industry analysts rate The Mirage as the most expensive hotel-casino in history.
The major attractions of this luxury casino include The Chelsea, The Chandelier, Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub, The Boulevard Pool, and the P3 Art Studio (‘The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’). When it comes to the Mirage, the signature attractions include The Volcano, Dolphin Habitat, and The Secret Garden. There is no doubt that both the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and The Mirage are luxury resort casinos and therefore ordinary people cannot afford to pay its services. Hence, both the resorts focus primarily on wealthy class of customers who find it pleasurable to pay a premium on extra leisure services. With a diverse boutique collection, the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas offers a fresh sense of style and a unique personality to its clients. Likewise, The Mirage is the perfect destination for visitor who would like to wander along the lights-illuminated strip at night.
While analyzing the convention services of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, it seems that they are capable of creating customizable experience for an event. The organization uses highly advanced meeting technology characterized with the ‘high-tech wizardry from PSAV’ so as to improve the technical performance of its meeting facility; and in addition, it offers superior catering services and spacious reception suites to enhance convention experiences of its clients (‘Las Vegas meeting services’). In addition, the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas maintains an eclectic retain environment that delivers a tangible shopping experience for guests in terms of a large number of distinct brands. When it comes to the convention services offered by The Mirage, it is identified that the organization takes constant efforts to update its meeting technology and thereby provides wonderful meeting experience to its clients. The Mirage also offers catering and reception services to add to the grandness its convention services. Finally, The Mirage has extensive retail facilities to meet the shopping needs of guests and to enhance their visiting experience.
