This memo is a response to your request on the Progress I have made on my analytical report for this course. Just as a reminder, my research project was covering the topic “Cultural Clash of Advocating English as a Second Language.” As presented in the draft paper I sent earlier, I had highlighted the reasons English has become a preferred language of communication throughout the world and how people from countries that o not speak English have started learning it regardless of their age. I also identified the study methodology, results and findings of the study as well as the conclusions and recommendations. This memo is going to present my research that I have completed this far, my research problem, question and the purpose of my report.
After I presented my proposal, I went on to conduct research on the required reading sources, after which I got down to analyzing and writing about my research topic. According to the work I have done so far, I realized that many ESL learners have varied reasons they study English as a second language but the most common reason is that the language puts them at a competitive advantage in this era of modernization and globalization. In as much as this is the case, I also presented the fact that this poses a problem to their mastery and use of the first languages as well as cultural practices.
Research Problem
According to the findings, there is a clear indication that there is complete disregard of the cultural values and heritage of the learners after they learn English as a second language. the research problem in this case is to determine whether there is a cultural clash depending on whether the learners were ready for the learning of English as a second language or not. In as much as there is this craze of earning English as a second language going on around the world, it becomes clear that there is a major problem especially when it comes to how that is affecting the cultures of the learners.
Research Question
The question that the report seeks to answer is why many people are opting to learn English as a second language and what the impact the language may present o not only their first language usage but also their cultures. Clearly there is a clash between English language learning usage and the first language and culture of the people involved. Also, is there really a relationship between the readiness of the learner to learn English as a second language and how does this impact their learning that the clash that may occur?
