The Assassination of Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey
As I look at the photograph of the assassination of Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, I am able to enter the same gallery that elicits an aroma of a freshly cleaned place where I witness the anguish of the assassin, hear the loud voice of his conviction, and experience the bitter taste of death that sends chills down my spine. In the photograph, we can see the subjects in a place that is entirely painted in white. Three photographs can be seen hanging on the wall, and it can be assumed that other photographs are displayed on the scene. The flawless paint and the shiny cleaned floor send out an aroma of a freshly cleaned space characterized by a pleasing scent of air freshener. However, the cleanliness of the venue is clearly overpowered by the two main subjects, the assassin and the victim. With his eyes that seem to show no regret with what he is doing, the assassins face reflects a strong sense of anguish. He is wearing a black suit and a slim tie. His left foot is stepped forward, making his tie swing to the left as well. As he points his left hand upward with his mouth wide open, I could almost hear his loud voice as he gives the people an idea about why he shot down his victim, Karlov. His right hand holds a pistol with his pointing finger ready to pull the trigger. Indeed, his face and the position of his hand show that he is ready to shoot more people just like what he did to Karlov. Just a step to his left, Karlov lies. His face cannot be seen but with both of his arms spread on his sides and his feet stretched out, it is clear that he is unconscious. Seeing the assassin’s angry face with a gun on his hand, I am almost certain that Karlov is dead from a gunshot wound. His lifeless and defenseless position delivers a bitter taste of death that definitely sends shivers down my spine.
