Technological advances are amongst the developments characterizing the 21st century. Primarily, the emergence of computers has facilitated automation of processes in different sectors. It has simplified the procedures in various organizations whereby operations are handled at a faster rate as opposed to when carried out manually. The automation also minimizes the errors likely to occur when matters are handled manually. Through the use of internet technology communication between individuals in different geographical locations can be made within seconds. Similarly, it has significantly enhanced socialization where people use the internet to interact with each other via social media. Institutions within different sectors have benefitted from the use of computer and Internet technologies (Dixit and Singh). These firms have seen an increment in their productivity levels through facilitation by the enhanced technology that fosters research and development activities. The assessment of computer and internet technologies should entail not only the utopian ideologies but also the dystopian perspectives. For instance, the increased rates of Internet use has led to addiction whereby people spend most of the time surfing. Furthermore, the Internet is one of the factors eroding societal morals. It has also led to the emergence of online theft that can take the form of hacking or spamming and credit card fraud. However, the benefits of computer and internet technology outweigh the challenges it imposes (Dixit and Singh). Through analyzing computer and the internet technologies, this essay shall explain the benefits of computers and the internet to different sectors.
Learning institutions around the world utilize computer and the internet technologies to supports learning processes. Technology facilitates the development of curriculum for teaching purposes (Galadze 68). Before the current progression of computer and internet technologies, there was a big gap between the teacher and the student that hindered adequate dissemination of knowledge. Currently, Internet bridges that gap through the use of different online communication platforms. For instance, the teacher can upload learning materials on the educational sites where students can access them. Upon having questions they can also air them out through the same websites. The chances of response are usually high as opposed to oral communication. Technology has also enhanced educational research. Additionally, the Internet has many online databases that can offer quality references on a given topic such as e-books, journals, and educational websites. Learners can also interact with each other via social media or discussions boards where they discuss various topics that offer different individual ideas on a particular query. Tutors in most of the higher learning institutions usually utilize the internet and computer technologies while posting assignment to the students who are in most case required to upload it via the web. Many educational applications have been developed to improve learning, for example, plagiarism apps for identification of excessively borrowed work that is not properly cited. Such apps have enhanced originality of students in the research work or tasks. Computer and internet technologies offer the students and instructors the best educational conditions (Galadze 68).
The military and other security institutions have also benefitted from the development of the computer and the internet technologies. Security has been boosted through increased tracking activities of the military. Besides, those in charge of the army operations can issue orders at a far distance (Arquilla 58). Technology facilitates communication within the military. The use of military websites enables a quick diffusion of information to the targeted individuals. The internet and computer technologies have increased the possibilities of cyber threats such that countries without robust systems are vulnerable to the maintenance of external and internal order. Cyber terrorism is typically perpetrated with the aim of creating despondency among the civilians. The occurrence of cyber terrorism can deter both the domestic as well as the external activities of a country (Arquilla 65). The internet and computer technologies have led to the development of the best counter-practices for cyber warfare where the military and the national governments have secured their domains with the best firewalls. These protective technologies are mainly used for the prevention of malicious intrusion. The internet and computer technologies have led to an increment in the cyberspace activities for both those having malicious intents and those enacting counteractive measures (Dixit and Singh). Software and applications for detecting unauthorized entry have been developed. Besides, they can also block such access and thus reduce or eliminate the possibilities of technological carnages. Data and information of a military organization are conveniently stored and retrieved using technological appliances. Computer and the Internet technologies have significantly enhanced security that ensures the maintenance of internal and external order in a country.
The current development of computer and internet technology has substantially diffused in various businesses within the economy. Almost all the sectors use a computer and the Internet technology. Computer technology has led to automation and simplification of processes (Dixit and Singh). For instance, in business, the automation of processes through the use of computers enables an easier execution of tasks. It also minimizes the chances of errors since processes are automated. Computers also facilitate easy analysis and interpretation of data for use in the business process (Wallace 287). In the past before the introduction of computers, the accuracy of a particular data relied on the ability of a person. Currently, computers can store volumes of data and retrieve it accurately as it was stored in its original form. The manner in which procedures are likely to be carried out in businesses has also improved through the use of computer and internet technologies. Besides, the overwhelming growth of organizations in the world has led to computer technology demand increment. For example, the emergence of multinational corporations in the world calls for the use of computer and the Internet technologies for communication between different branches or countries of operation (Albert 78). The health sector has also enhanced through the use of computers and the internet technology. It has facilitated research on various diseases, identification and treatment management. The application of technology also fosters the manner in which health care facility(s) operations are carried out.
The manufacturing sector has also benefited from the use of the internet and computer technology. In manufacturing firms, the internet, and computer technologies are used for data recording and storage and establishing the best production methods. The internet is also used for marketing purposes. Besides, an organization that has adopted e-commerce can efficiently carry out their transactions via the web. Computer and the Internet technologies are also used for R&D activities. Companies can also conveniently assess competition levels in the market through the utilization of the Internet. The internet also enables the manufacturing firms to compare their products with those of other companies (Wallace 287). Such an assessment is essential especially in devising the best plan that the business can employ to withstand competition in the market. Computers enhance the storage of production data that can be used to compare manufacturers in different periods. The manufacturing trends can be easily assessed by comparing the data among the various periods and thus devise the most appropriate production targets. It also serves as a platform for advertisement. Online ads reach many people unlike the traditional forms of commercials (Dixit and Singh). Linking manufacturing to the Web is crucial in the present world following globalization. Besides, marketing of products through the Worldwide Web can reach many individuals from different locations. The internet also offers businesses with an opportunity to compare their local methods of production and marketing with those of other countries (Albert 75). The comparison provides insights on the manner in which firms can invest to better their production ability.
Conclusion
Computer and internet technologies are primary drivers to the success of manufacturing, agricultural, retailing, and security sectors in most of the economies today. The enhanced technology facilitates a quick execution of the process in the above sectors. Through the use of technology, countries have boosted their security systems. Concisely, the use of software and applications has provided a counteractive mechanism for cyber threats. Besides, the military of different countries can use a computer and the Internet technology to disseminate orders without necessarily having to travel to the locations of operation. Business enterprises have benefitted through placing their commercial on websites. The internet and computer technologies have facilitated learning processes by enhancing the relationship between the tutor and the students as well as amongst the students. Furthermore, communication in all the above areas has also been facilitated through the use of computer and the internet technologies.
