Abstract
Computers are known to generate errors that may have negative impacts in terms of losses. Some of these errors generated by the computers may be caused by human negligence while some may be cause by poor quality of products. These errors may be passed on from one computer to the other whether knowingly or unknowingly thereby causing undesired results. Some of the software and hardware manufacturers have come up with error detection software that is able to detect any type of error that may be generated from the computers thereby preventing any negative impacts that may be caused by the errors.
Introduction
In recent years, the advancement in technology has come with its disadvantages. Some of these disadvantages include errors that are generated from computers. Very good examples of errors that are generated from computer include typing errors, which may lead to losses in terms money and lives. According to a survey that was conducted in 2005, over 100 students commit suicide annually due to cancellation of results, of which 62% of the cancellation is done in error. The objective of this study is to explore who is responsible in cases where there are any errors in computers.
Discussion
When computing errors cause monetary and human casualties, different parties should be held responsible for these errors. These parties include computer hardware and software manufacturers, the government, and the users of the computers. The role played by the hardware and software manufacturers is the delivery of quality products to the end users. If the products delivered by these manufacturers are not of the right quality, this may translate into the generation of errors, which may in turn cause losses. In such cases, the manufacturers are to be held fully responsible for any losses that may be incurred. To prevent this, the manufacturers must ensure delivery of the best quality of products to the end users. In addition, they must also develop a program that will be able to detect any errors that may be generated by the computer.
The role that is played by the government, through the relevant bodies, is enacting laws and regulations that ensure that the hardware and software manufacturers deliver the best quality of products to the end users. Due to laxity by the government in the legislation of these types of laws, the end user is exposed to low quality hardware and software products thereby leading to the generation of errors by the computers, which may lead to losses in terms of money and lives. This being the case, the government is also to be held responsible in cases where theses computer errors have caused loses.
On the other hand, the end user is also responsible for the generation of errors by the computers. In cases where the end user has not been careful when using computers, errors have been generated, which have led to losses. It is the responsibility of the end user to ensure that the personal errors are reduced. In addition, the end user must be extremely vigilant when using a computer in a bid to reduce computer generated errors.
Conclusion
In conclusion, errors generated by computers may lead to loses in terms of money and lives. The responsibilities of reducing theses errors cannot be pinned to one entity but is shared between the manufacturers and developers of hardware and software products, the government, and the end users of the computers. If the products delivered by the hardware and software manufacturers are of the right quality, the end user is to be held wholly responsible in case there is any type of errors that may be generated by the computers. If the products are not of the right quality, the manufacturers and the government should be held responsible in case there is a generation of errors by the computers.
