Concept of Community
Introduction
In recent years, organizations that are of benefit to the community have been on the increase, which has been attributed to the different advantages that organizations have over others (Gardener & Fitzpatrick, 2003). These organizations are firmly based on the visions and goals that have been set by communities; thus benefiting the community in the long run. The organizations are considered to be of benefit to the community because they involve members of the community in their general planning and management (Diamond, 2001). Also, this helps to move the communities towards change that the people within the communities deserve and aim (Hubbard & Parsons, 2009). The organizations in question are mainly motivated by the problems within the community setting, which they tend to fix; thus helping the community in general (Delanty, 2010). It is also vital to understand that the community must have the key concepts necessary that are relevant to benefiting different sectors of the community, as will be discussed. Another important aspect to understand is the engagement organizations and stakeholders have with the communities so as to ensure that the general development and change is achieved.
Concepts of the Community
The first concept of the community that can be understood from different research materials is the planning of the impacts that different factors will have on the community. When dealing with different aspects in the community, it is important to understand that they may end up having different impacts some of which may not be favorable (Marshall & Rowland, 2006). This then means that the community members within that society must plan for the impacts that these aspects may have. This is important because it helps to keep the community members well informed about any changes that may occur and how they supposed to react to each (MacKay, 2009). The second concept of the community that can be seen is governance. In a community setting, it is always up to the members of that society to ensure that they have good governance by selecting the leaders that cater for their needs and fulfill their requirements (Gwyther, 2008). In the event of this, the community has the mandate of making sure that the governance offered to them is of the best quality without prejudice or favoritism.
Another concept of the community that can be seen is friendrising whereby members of the community raise funds for different projects through the organizations; hence benefiting the community (Marshall & Rowland, 2006). This is an important aspect of the community as it has helped bring up different programs that have been of importance to the whole society. Some of the funds raised through the organizations are directed towards establishing guidelines, and principles used in establishing friendship with other organizations also of benefit to the community. The community also has the mandate of ensuring equity in terms of the shared resources within the society (Day, 2006). This is by making sure that all the members of the society have access to the shared resource, such as water bodies thereby creating equity. The development of asset based resources within the community is also a major concept that can be seen in the societies and the different communities around the world (Gottesman & Komotar, 2003). This is aimed at making sure that all the members of the community have access to assets that they can use for different purposes thus enriching their lives.
How Organizations and Stakeholders Interact
As mentioned earlier, organizations and stakeholders interact with each other in the community setting based on different aspects and factors. The first aspect that leads to the interaction of organization in the community is the community based programs funded and managed by different organizations and stakeholders (Klit & Finnerup, 2009). Through the community based programs, organizations can interact and share knowledge on how the can use their resources to help the community based on the needs and concerns raised. This makes it a must for organizations to have to interact for the strict purpose of management. In addition to the community based programs, organizations and stakeholders interact in the community for transparency (Kim & Bashford, 2011). Transparency is a fundamental concept that every organization and stakeholder must be able to utilize to their advantage and that being the case, the organizations work hard towards increasing their transparency (Simons, 2008). This, not only, helps to motivate the community members towards the products and services offered by the organizations but also helps to increase the confidence that the community members have towards the organizations and stakeholders (Kong, 2003). This also helps to increase the credulity of the organization and the stakeholders thus increasing the trust within the community members.
Another main aspect that leads to the interaction of organizations and stakeholders is through educational programs that organized to educate the members of the community (Knopf, 2006). The organizations and stakeholders partner to give the members of the community the ability to make informed decisions that will ultimately be of importance to them. In addition, the educational programs are aimed at increasing the involvement of the community members in the management of organizations, as well as in the stakeholders meetings; thus increasing on transparency (Cunningham, Jones & Dillon, 2003). The organizations and stakeholders also interact during the conduction of different studies in the community that are aimed at increasing financial performance both for the organizations, stakeholder, and the members of the named community being assisted (Press, 2003). According to different resources collected, the interaction of the organizations and the stakeholders has been of great importance to the community members in terms of development and accountability of all activities carried out by the organizations (Lindsay, 2006).
Conclusion
In conclusion, community based organizations have been on the increase in the community setting, and are firmly based on the visions and goals set by the communities; thus benefiting the community. In addition, the organizations in question are mainly motivated by the problems within the community setting, which they tend to fix, which help the community in general. It is essential to understand that these organizations involve different members of the community in the management so as to increase the community members’ confidence and trust. Key concepts of the community discussed here are planning of the impacts that different factors will have on the community, community based governance, friendraising whereby members of the community can raise funds for different projects through the organizations, and ensuring equity in terms of the shared resources within the society. The organizations and stakeholders also interact in the community setting based on different factors and aspects. The main aspects that lead to the interaction of the organizations are educational programs, transparency, and community based programs.
