Recently, I have been to the concert of great American pianist Leon Fleisher with an orchestra at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center. I do not remember the name of the conductor; however, I perfectly remembered the name of the pianist.
Apparently it is becoming a good tradition that Leon Fleisher performs with best orchestras of our time, since the music they played was just a miracle. For long I wanted to visit a concert of classical music, but did not have any chance until I bought a ticket for this orchestra`s performance. Unfortunately, I was able to attend only the first part of the concert, which included completely different in style and content musical works – Prokofiev's Second Piano Concerto and the Johannes Brahms` Second Symphony. The performance left extremely bright, optimistic mood clearly and vividly recreated by the soloist, conductor and the whole orchestra.
The orchestra confirmed its status of a professional team knowing their craft. Performance of Leon Fleisher captivated listeners with an organic combination of artistic maturity and artistic freedom, brilliant technique and emotions; it did not leave the audience indifferent. Musicians skillfully performed every passage of two concertos – no matter whether the movement was in Largo or in Presto. Every instrument was perfectly tuned so that Prokofiev`s and Brahms` concertos sounded authentically and conveyed the spirit of those epochs. I think, all main ideas of composers were duly transmitted to listeners through the orchestra – these were passion for art and irresistible spirit of justice prevalent in music themes of both composers.
I did not have a chance to stay for the second part and listen to that heaven music. However, a friend of mine who also attended the concert that evening told me that after the performance, enthusiastic listeners did not want to let the musicians go way from stage for a long time. For me, Prokofiev's Second Concerto was more interesting. I perfectly know its music from records – it is very powerful in the impression, and simply cannot leave anyone indifferent.
I would recommend everyone to attend a performance of Leon Fleisher and the orchestra that accompanied him.
