The selected article by Glenn Llopis talks about four different ways of managing employee conflicts that could be adopted by leaders within organizations . The article states that conflicts are common in teams that could affect the working of the organization and also erode the strong culture and environment that it has managed over the years. Therefore it is important for the leaders of the organization to deal with the conflict situation in an effective manner by knowing the factors that shape up the organizational setup. The four ways highlighted in the article include the role of the leader in acting responsibly to gain respect from members of the organization and learn from the environment before making decisions and making people accept those. For this purpose, leaders must learn to deal with the conflict with right timing. Untimely involvement of the leader could make situation difficult. The leader should give time for members to resolve the issue before intervening. Moreover, the leader should learn about his and employees boundaries in the system and work according to them to lead members of the organization. Furthermore, the leader must respect differences in teams or members as diversity is growing and the leader must know about members’ intelligence and their contribution to form a level of respect for them. Finally, the leader must confront conflicts with a view of getting better out of the situation. Opportunities should be sought and relationships between employees should be fostered in a positive manner.
My view on the content of the article is very much in acceptance of the ideas presented by the author. Without considering factors in the organizational environment and motivations and knowledge of members and also of the leader himself it is not possible to deal with the conflict situation in an effective manner. Organizations are becoming highly complex and for leaders to be better judges of the situations that arise in the system, they must be prepared to deal with the unexpected situations and be able to make things easier and simpler for members to deal with and adhere to the organizational objectives and policies.
