Sometimes it is hard to decide for a person that wants to become a smartphone user which of the smartphones is actually better. As I see today we have a worldwide competition between three great rivals, which are: Apple, Android and Blackberry. All three rivals are good enough to compete, however, they all have their cons and pros. Today I wanna talk about cons of Android phones.
Android is a software, that is developed by Android Inc, that was bought by Google Inc and the Open Handset Alliance, that was created by Google Inc in for supporting the Android system. (Gold, S. 'Android: A Secure Future At Last?’2012)
On my opinion, the number one con of android system is the security issue. This problem was recently discovered by Jason Nieh, professor of computer science at Columbia Engineering, and PhD candidate Nicolas Vienno. In their research they proved that the passwords and secret keys of Android phone users are under the threat. ("Crucial security problem in Google Play: Thousands of secret keys found in android apps." ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 18 June 2014.)
The type of threats on Android smartphones can be divided into three groups: SMS Trojan viruses, advertising modules and exploits to get root access to he android phone. There are also big online banking security risks for the users of Android phones. ('Crypto Flaw Found In Android'. Network Security 2013)
Speaking about security Android is the weakest platform comparing to Apple iOS and Blackberry OS. The researches have shown that 99% of all mobile malware is designed to crush the Android platform.(‘Android Is Most-Attacked Mobile Platform’. Network Security 2011.9)
As for me another big minus of Android platform is that all of the android phones have different preinstalled applications. The problem is that such companies as: Samsung, HTC, Huawei, Sony and other, fulfill bear android platform with certain interface modifications and certain apps, that cannot be deleted. This interface and apps usually make your phone to work much more slowly than it could. The only one Android phone that can be found with bear platform is Google Nexus produced by cooperation of Google Inc and such companies as Motorola, Samsung, HTC.
Mass distribution of Android sometimes leads to the fact that is not always possible in a timely manner to upgrade the firmware version of a particular device. The number of models is great, programmers often do not have time to adapt the new version of Android updated to a particular device. In some cases, the ability to upgrade the operating system simply does not exist. This is a definite disadvantage and disadvantage, since update fixes noticed inaccuracies and errors of the previous version of the work. ('Android Malware Goes Undetected’ 2012)
On the other hand, an upgrade for a particular device Android entails a certain risk. Accustomed to the famous "glitch" of the old version, and sometimes have to identify and deal with "glitches" the new firmware. Although in general the emergence of new versions - progress as a result of which the operating system is improved.
