Discussion
In the movie Pay If Forward a young boy is featured who is given an assignment by his teacher and told to put it in application. He learns that he can help a homeless person and save his life because his mother had alcohol addiction problems in the hope that his mother can get helped in the cycle of paying it forward. Eventually his concept gets accepted by the society, and he dies trying to make the world a better place. The concept of learning is well applied and eventually we see the response as reward by the society. Another example, a 75 year old man decided to go back to school so that he could read newspapers and write so that he could properly fit In the society. His fear of interaction vanished when he got enabled with reading and writing skills. This example applies in cognitive learning and also insight learning. The other concept is about memory. Memory tends to fail us when routine is suddenly changed and often results in tragic events. The following example talks about forgetting and the knowledge of memory. For example, a father faced manslaughter charges after being assigned by his wife to drop her daughter to daycare on the specific day. Usually the wife routinely dropped their daughter. The father forgot to drop his daughter at the daycare. He parked his car and went to work and completely forgot he had a child with him. She died due to hot air in the car. Another example is of an eye witness in an American court who got disqualified due loss of memory during trial. The witness was said to give the testimony in the wrong context. Eye witness prosecution tends to fail when asked leading questions and often disqualified due to poor memory that could get affected by stress and anxiety. This example shows that witnesses could forget important details helpful in a trial. Also a student decided to go to party where he got himself so drunk and he knew he had an exam the following day, with the confidence that he had completely studied for the paper. The next morning due to brain distortion he could hardly remember what he had studied. Hence explicit memory can get affected by various factors and could get temporary.
The concept of state of consciousness is about mental processes and consciousness.
Sleep is an important factor in every human being and sleep deprivation can lead to addiction. For example, musician Amy Winehouse admitted that she resulted to taking alcohol due to sleep deprivation so that she could fall asleep faster due to stress and with time she became an alcoholic and sadly died due to the addiction of alcohol (Zimbardo & Weber, 2003). Dreaming is a reflection about an individual’s life and often they have meaning. For example a girl featured in guardian newspaper had dreams that were scary when she slept with lights off. Due to fear of darkness she suddenly woke up screaming and often fell off the bed. She associated darkness with evil probably due to watching horror episodes in the television. Dreams are inspired by various aspects of our lives. Another example is of a man who was in a coma for three weeks and recovered from the coma but had problem remembering some of his memories from before the coma that had been caused by a road accident when he was driving due to sleep deprivation.
Conclusion
Consciousness is an important aspect in analysis of psychology and it gets affected by memory, the state of consciousness and learning and human nature.
