Wallace Stegner and Edward abbey are both influential American writers who were very influential in the preservation of the American natural habitats. Although the two writers used different approaches in the way they fought for environmental conservation, their works converge in the way they fought for environment conservation. Wallace wrote about the need for conserving the American west and campaigned for the federal protection of natural habitats. Wallace was influential in the drafting of the National Wilderness Preservation Systems in the year 1964.
Edward abbey wrote passionately about issues of conservation, public land policies and argued for the direct action in the process of environment conservation. However ,Edward abbey was more radical in his approach on environmental conservation than Wallace. Edward abbey writings inspire radical environment movements for environment conservation. Although Edward abbey and Wallace lived in different times, they both appreciated the urgent need for preservation of American natural wilderness from human encroachments.
Although American natural wilderness areas are inhabitable, Wallace and Edward abbey argued for their protection and conservation. Edward and abbey also were concerned with the rapid pace of the industrial revolution in America .The two authors viewed it as a threat to Americas natural ecosystems.
Edward Abbey refers to industrial tourism as the travelling to industrial cities and industrial parks, for reasons motivated by non-tourist activities. The assessment that Wallace and Stegner give about the state of the America wilderness in the west of the united states are in danger of extinction from human encroachment and destruction. . The two authors therefore argue for radical plans for the conservation of American wilderness.
There is a need for adoption of the approaches spelled by Wallace and Stegner to preserve nature for its aesthetic properties and for future generations. Critiques of the approaches spelled by Wallace and Abbey are the ones who do not understand the threat natural ecosystems face from human encroachment and the urgency of developing plans fro conserving the environment.
Question two. Analysis of two authors
John Clare, (1793-1864) was a nature writer in the United States who had a singular gift of capturing nature in specific details. His celebrated peace of writing, the poems descriptive of rural life (1820) is one of the most profound descriptions of nature in a rural setting. His celebratory representations of the countryside and his lamentation of its disruption by human encroachment made him a celebrity in his days. John Clare’s style of writing makes his readers understand the significance of destroying natural habitats.
This style of writing by John Clare in representation of nature is very different from the style of Raphael Emerson style of describing nature. Emerson never used one fixed philosophical tenet in his writings on nature .Emerson writings suggest that humankind has the ability of realizing just anything and the relationship between humans and the natural world. Emerson’s writing on nature is more philosophical in their analysis than naturalistic. According to Emerson, the universe composes of both the soul and nature (145).
The writings of Emerson remain very influential to American thinker’s, poets and natural writers who followed him. His views were radical in some times. He was among the pioneers of the transcendent movement in the United States.
